Around the Traps - Foundation/1

Bianca Vescio / Markeeta Green

Literacy

This week we have begun our new mentor text, ‘Snail and Turtle are Friends’. We used a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast Snail and Turtle. We also thought about how our friends are similar to us, as well as how they are different and that’s ok! We look forward to making puppets on Thursday and acting out friendship scenarios.

We continued working on the sounds; n, o and p in Foundation this week. In Grade One, we have been working on the different spellings of /ch/ (ch and tch), as well as looking at the sound /th/.

Maths

Foundation

This week we read the book ‘One is a Snail, Ten is a crab’. We have used the animals in the book to represent different numbers. Students have been able to work out many number combinations using the animals' legs to count and add.

Grade One

In Grade One we have been exploring the idea that a 2 digit number is made up of tens and ones. We have been singing a fun song to remember how to count the tens and ones in number! We have also been playing some fun games to help us practice this skill.

Inquiry

We continued to think about how healthy foods help us grow this week. We thought about the different food groups and made our own whole class healthy food circle.

RE (Religious Education)

Our focus has been on learning more about CARITAS. We watched a clip about Anatercia and her family. We discussed what the money raised by CARITAS is used for such as water, clothes etc. We prayed for Anatercia and her family.
