Curriculum

Get Ready, Set, Go! The excitement was felt across the school as we prepared for Twilight Sports and what a wonderful event it was. The students practised the events in P.E classes and spent time rehearsing their chants in the House teams. Thank you for everyone’s enthusiasm and sportsmanship. It was so fantastic to see the whole community together again.

During Maths this week we continued to learn about Place Value. Students practised making and renaming numbers using a range strategies including expanding numbers and making them with MAB blocks. We also used our knowledge to place numbers on a number line.

Writing sizzling starts was a focus this week as we focused on engaging the reader. Students wrote a recount about Twilight Sports using time sequence words such as first, next, after that and finally. In groups we brainstormed nouns, adjectives and verbs relating to the event. Students used their perseverance and creativity to produce wonderful work.

In Literacy lessons we focused on making connections. We read a variety of stories to help make connections to self as well as to other texts. Making connections and thinking about what we read helps us to be better readers and improve our comprehension

Students had the opportunity to identify strengths in others this week in our Well-being sessions. It was lovely to hear the students talk about each other and recognise qualities in their peers. The key strengths noticed were kindness, creativity, perseverance and gratitude.

Thank you for all your support and continued efforts at home particularly with reading.

Have a great week and enjoy the long weekend!
