Selamat tinggal!

What an incredible week in the Independence Centre as we came together as a community and had a blast during Twilight Sports!

In Literacy we focused on the reading strategy of Questioning to support students in engaging in the deeper meanings behind texts. We explored asking questions before, during and after a text, open and closed questions and a range of different question stems. In Writing, students followed the Writer’s Process to plan, draft, edit and uplevel to create a completed written piece on the Big Write picture prompt. It was impressive to witness students taking pride in their work as they produced sizzling starts, tightening tensions and worked towards their individual Writing goals. This week, students will continue narrative writing as they start off with a Cold Write prompt.

In Maths students developed their confidence in using open number lines and explored different real-world contexts. We brainstormed many different ways number lines are used around us including as speedometers, thermometers and measuring tapes! Students delved deeper into their practical uses by creating scales to accurately place numbers on a number line. We also used our problem solving strategies to support us in the maths challenge ‘Three Way Mix Up’, where students were given a number of counters and had to show teamwork and perseverance to problem solve patterns following a criteria.

In Wellbeing, students were given flipped clocks and were challenged to problem solve and identify the times using mirrors in teams. Through this activity, students openly identified their inner critic and inner coach and were encouraged to celebrate their inner coach and successes. In STEM, students gathered findings from their plant and water experiments. Using those findings, students developed questions to further research and to gather data.

Have a wonderful week!

For an excellent effort using descriptive phrases in your Big Write. You painted a great picture of the setting of the castle in the desert and created interest for the reader. Great work, Jonas!

3/4H: Jessica C -

For demonstrating curiosity when developing questions about Smoking Ceremonies and their significance. It was great to see you use your prior knowledge and research from a video to ask interesting questions about a ceremony at MPRPS. Amazing work Jess!

3/4M: Thomas M -

For demonstrating a love of learning and perseverance when creating accurate number lines in maths sessions. You worked hard to use equal units when creating a number line that extended to the tenths and hundredths. Terrific, Tom!

3/4O: Charli R -

For demonstrating a love of learning as you solved addition and subtraction problems using place value knowledge. You should be proud of how you worked to identify where you might be making mistakes and used your place value knowledge to work out solutions.

3/4R: Parezae F -

For demonstrating a love of learning when coming up with meaningful questions before, during and after reading and viewing texts. These skills help you show a greater understanding of the text. I am proud of your efforts, Parezae!
