Marine Ambassadors

Term 1

The Marine Ambassadors group involves students at Beaumaris Secondary College who are interested in learning about our marine environment and looking after Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary.

During Term 1, students in years 7-11 participated in a snorkel session exploring the reefs at Ricketts Point and Black Rock. This year we had some great weather for our snorkels and it was fantastic to see many of our local species such sea urchins, sting rays, abalone, sea stars, leatherjackets, snapper, banjo sharks (fiddler rays) and we were lucky to see a number of sea horses on one of our trips.

Next term we are looking forward to visiting our local reefs to investigate introduced crab species.  We are particularly interested in looking for a recently introduced species – The Asian Shore Crab.
