Sports Update

Swimming Carnival:

On Monday February 28, EMC held its Swimming Sports Carnival for year 7's, 8's and 9's at Pine Forest Aquatic Centre. Grey skies threatened to ruin the day however we received no rain at the carnival and the temperatures were quite warm and muggy.

Students showed up to the gym in the morning showing full support for their sub schools, dressed in their sub school colours and wearing all sorts of interesting and amusing costumes.

While we would have liked to have seen a few more students there on the day, 527 students still attended and showed great support for the day. The splash and dash between events was a hit and the line for the water slide was always full. Special shout out to Mr. Wilsmore for organizing the sub school dance off, students showed off their moves to absolute classics such as the Nutbush and the Macarena, Bindana were hard to beat in this event but every school showed great participation in this.

Our swimmers contested in 4 events for their age groups (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly) and there was some very strong swimmers across all age groups on display.

The two students that swam the quickest times for their event across ALL heats will now gain qualification into the Northern Peninsula Finals which will be held on Thursday 17th March

The results for the carnival are below:

1st Kurunda

2nd Bindana

3rd Allinga

4th Myamba

Great to see Kurunda back up on top again however they were pushed by last year’s champions Bindana and Allinga just edged out Myamba to claim 3rd place.

Senior Boys Cricket - Southern Metropolitan Grand Final Results

Our Senior Boys Cricket went out to Roy Dore Reserve and competed in the Southern Metropolitan Region Finals. The boys played against Mornington in the Semi Final first up and managed to bat well and put on 157 runs, Kyle Parrot top scored with 33 runs and also took 2/12 with the ball. Zane Snowden also batted well later in the order and made 32 runs.

Mornington only managed to make 80 runs and were bowled out in the 18th over. The boys had a quick break and faced off against a strong Melbourne High in the Southern Metropolitan Final. Nath Guinea won the toss and chose to bat first, the boys got off to a shaky start losing two batters to run outs in the first 3 overs including Kyle Parrot for a Diamond Duck… Nath Guinea made 24 runs, Jay Jewiss also had a good innings with 23.

EMC only managed to make 99 runs which in the end was going to be hard to defend, they showed signs of restricting Melbourne but in the end our tally wasn’t big enough. Nonetheless, it was a HUGE effort by our boys to get this far and they should be proud of their efforts finishing runners up in our region and making the final 16 teams in the state!

These boys also have quite the impressive resume over their last 5 years at EMC, I’ve had the pleasure of co coaching them with Mr. Forsyth since they were in year 7 and they have been crowned Northern Peninsula Champions 5 times, Southern Metropolitan Champions once and have also made the final 8 teams in the state one year too. Well done lads!
