Year 9 & 10

Stories of Remote Learning Continued

Hello and welcome back to the September edition of year 9 and 10 updates. As we would be well aware, schooling has looked a little different again this term as we navigate our way through Remote and Flexible Learning at John Fawkner College.

Since the last session, it has been amazing to see some of the great efforts of students participating, engaging and responding to the difficult circumstances we find ourselves in. Many students are doing the right thing and completing all set tasks and logging into Microsoft Teams to attend classes.

I have had many teachers come to me to acknowledge and celebrate efforts of classes and individuals which  has been great to hear. I encourage any students or families having difficulties with remote learning to contact the school as we await advice regarding Term 4 and a hopeful return to classrooms.

We have also seen the introduction of 'Activity Days' which Mr Campbell  has been organising to give students to compete in challenges from a range of different areas as a welcomed break to the daily classes. I have seen some interesting cooking videos, some talent filled sports videos and great art work as a result of these challenges. I encourage all students to participate as they work towards becoming a 'Lockdown Legend'.

As much as remote learning is about individuals working together, I wanted to make special mention of 10B, who have been outstanding with the highest attendance and engagement rate of any class across Years 9 and 10.

Finally I wish to recognise the efforts of the boys involved in the Houli-Saad academy. It has been incredible to be involved in the development of personal skills that Mr Owens has set up with some of Australia's best AFL footballers. These students have been incredibly lucky to be involved and we hope you get the most out of it.

We hope to have more good news regarding a return to schooling soon, but in the mean time I encourage everyone to stay safe, healthy and reach out if you require support. Teachers are doing an amazing job adapting and changing their way of teaching, and I know that all of them will be there to help and support you should it be required.

Keep up the good work!
