Senior School Report

The Senior School team would like to congratulate our students and parents on their efforts during Term 3. The focus has been to ensure students continue to move forward with their studies in the effort to be prepared for their eventual return to school and end of year assessments.  The Senior School co-ordinators are committed to supporting student welfare and academic success.  Please make contact with your child’s co-ordinator with any queries or requests for support.

We look forward to welcoming the Year 11 and 12 students back early in Term 4 and supporting the transition back to school later in Term 4 for our Year 10 students.

Year 12 Valedictory Dinner

Due to the government restrictions, the college’s Year 12 Valedictory Dinner has been sadly cancelled. The booking company Trybooking is in the process of organising refunds to those parents who had paid for the event.  Planning is underway for activities and events to be held during Term 4 to ensure that our Year 12 students can celebrate their great achievement of graduating in this very challenging year.  The college will ensure that parents / carers will also be able to celebrate the graduation with students either at the end of 2020 or the start of 2021 depending on Covid-19 restrictions.

Term Break - VCE Units 3 and 4

During Week One of the Term 3 School break (September 21 to September 25), the Year 12 students and Year 11 students studying a Unit 3 and 4 scored study will participate in the compulsory Knox Schools’ VCE Revision program.  The program will consist of online lectures by expert presenters for many of the VCE studies our school offers. The students will receive excellent revision resources in the form of information packs prepared by each of the presenters.

The final program session times and WebEx links have been distributed this week to students.  This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to access the highest quality of VCE revision support at no cost to parents.

Past VCE Units 3 & 4 end of year exams (and examiner reports) can also be accessed from:  https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/assessment/vce-assessment/past-examinations/Pages/Index.aspx

Years 10 and 11

It will be important for students to get some relaxation and leisure time during the upcoming term break; however, doing revision getting prepared for the end of year exams and their 2021 studies will also be important.  The Head Start program for current Year 10 and 11 students will be conducted later in Term 4.  This program will further support our students to be prepared for success in their 2021 VCE or VCAL programs.

General Achievement Test (GAT)

All students enrolled in one or more VCE or scored VCE VET Unit 3 and 4 sequences must sit the GAT.  The GAT will be held at the college on Wednesday 7 October 10.00am–1.15pm. Students must arrive at school no later than 9.15am.

The GAT is an essential part of the VCE assessment procedure. Although GAT results do not count directly towards VCE results, it plays an important role in checking that School-based Assessments and external assessments have been accurately assessed.  GAT results can also used in the calculation of the Derived Examination Score for students who are ill or affected by other personal circumstances at the time of a VCE external assessment.

The students sitting this year’s GAT were provided information and links to sample papers this week.
