Leased Computers

For the 2018 school year many Year 7 and 8 parents opted to lease a computer from the College for a three year period.

The end of the lease is at the end of this year.

We have always thought that 3 years is a good life span for a computer and anticipate that most students would lease a computer for year 7 to 9 and then start with a new leased computer for Year 10 to 12.

With this in mind we want to give parents some information to assist them to make an informed decision about what to do once the lease expires.

When the lease expires in December 2020 you have the opportunity to purchase the leased computer for $1. If you do this then the computer will need to be reimaged and all programs apart from Windows 10 will be erased. Students can then opt to use this computer and reload the free programs provided by the Department of Education and Training(DET). This computer would no longer be covered by insurance or warranty support and the College’s Tech team would only be able to give limited software support.

Alternatively, parents and students might decide to enter into another lease arrangement for the next three years. This would provide them with a new computer with full technical support, three-year warranty and accidental insurance cover through the College.

The third option is to purchase a device from another supplier. Students would need to load all the software themselves and be responsible for all software and hardware problems. The College’s technical support team only give support in getting students onto the College network.

All families that purchased a leased computer for the 2018 school year will receive information directly to their email about this process and the new leased computers. 

The information about leased computers starting in 2021 will also be available to all parents via Compass. This information will be available next week.

As we have offered in the past you can elect to pay the full amount up front or pay via a payment plan. If you pay the deposit by Wednesday 21st October 2020 then we will endeavour to have the computer ready for the first day of term 1, 2021. We will have subsequent rounds, but we cannot guarantee when the computer will be available.

We are going earlier than some other years but with the current pandemic the supply process requires greater lead times.

The critical dates for this process are as follows:

Information meeting via Webex                          Tuesday 15th September 2020 at 7.30 pm.

Compass open for payment for lease                   Monday 5th October 2020

Closing day for Round 1 of Leased computers      Wednesday 21st October 2020
