Frederic Ozanam

Frederic Ozanam was born on Friday, 23 April 1813, to Jean and Marie Ozanam. He was one of three children who were born in Milan, Italy. He moved as a child to Lyon, France. Frederic was fortunate enough to receive an education.

Frederic studied diligently and over time was a journalist, lawyer and mathematician. He was a charitable and along with friends, took time to care for the poor and displaced people in Paris. Frederic and his friends talked, fed and cared for these people on the streets of Paris.

In May 1833, Frederic and his friends established the Society of St Vincent de Paul. Their aim was to reach out to people and model the social mission work of the Catholic Church.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is now a world wide organisation who help thousands of people throughout the world.

The work of Frederic Ozanam and the St. Vincent de Paul Society now extends to schools where the Mini Vinnies groups continue the good work of Frederic and his friends.

Sunday Masses

While we are still unable to attend mass in large numbers, there are some options available. St. Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne have announced that the 11am Sunday Mass at St Patrick's Cathedral will continue to be televised free to air on C31 as well as live streamed on their website and YouTube channel

The Oblate of Mary Immaculate are also continuing to serve their community during this time. Masses and Prayer Services are live-streamed from many of their churches/seminaries to cater for their communities.

Sacrament Celebrations

At this point in time the information from the Archdiocese of Melbourne is that Sacramental celebrations are still postponed. We will of course keep you updated regarding any information pertaining to the celebration of Sacraments for the students.

Have a good week, stay well and be good to yourselves.
