From the Principal
Bishop Jeremy James visiting with Primary School students.
It has been a very busy fortnight with some great activities for the students.
The Right Reverend Jeremy James tssf, Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Perth, visited the School on Wednesday 26 August as part of our Bishop in Residence program. Bishop Jeremy is a familiar face to staff and students and he enjoyed a very busy day interacting with students of all ages, including meeting with Primary and Secondary student leaders. Our Chapel Prefect and Chapel Captain had the opportunity to speak with him about their respective roles which have been more challenging this year given the restrictions imposed by COVID-19. During my conversation with Bishop Jeremy at the end of the day, he was fulsome in his praise of our students whom he described as warm, welcoming and confident in sharing their ideas.
The annual Book Week Assembly is always a highlight in the Primary and this year's was no exception. Held this morning, staff and students entered into the spirit of the occasion reprising classical, modern, famous and infamous storybook characters from a variety of genres. Colourful costumes, accessories and props made for an entertaining event. Some costumes even had historical significance. I was reliably informed that a "squirrel" in Kindergarten was wearing the same costume that his mother wore when she was a similar age, over 30 years ago. Clearly dress up boxes come in handy when passed down through generations! Congratulations to all involved, with special thanks to Digital Technologies teacher, Haylee Godfrey who worked with the Primary Class Representatives to organise the event and the Secondary Prefects who dressed up and joined in the fun.
The many hours of rehearsals are over and tonight is Opening Night of the two play program, Sideshow Shenanigans and Hoods. I visited the theatre yesterday and the Hoods cast were in high spirits attending to final preparations. Thank you to the Arts Department, in particular Drama teacher, Rhiannon Thomas for her direction of each play. Under her guidance, the number of students taking Drama at all year levels continues to grow which augurs well for casting next year's musical, The Addams Family. I look forward to attending tonight's performance. There will be a matinee and evening performance tomorrow. Limited tickets to the matinee are still available and can be purchased through trybooking or at the door - $10 for general admission.
