On Tuesday 7 March, a Clubs Expo was held at East Doncaster Secondary College.

Clubs that were advertised at the event were: Chess Club, Literature Club, Craft Club, Environment Club, Fencing Club, Debating Club, Anime Club, Interact Club, Performing Arts Club, K-Pop Club, Computer Programming Club, and Fiction Club.

The atmosphere at Clubs Expo was bustling, crowded, and loud; especially during the first half of the event.

Interviewing

How did you feel about the Clubs Expo?

“I think it was an eye-opening experience that showed the school’s culture and displayed how people can come together to discover new hobbies and meet new people," a Year 10 Student at the event commented. Another, a student in Year 11, said that she came to the event out of curiosity, yet found it was enjoyable, and interesting to see all the clubs. A Literature Club Captain in Year 10 remarked that it was a good opportunity to learn about how you can get involved at EDSC, mentioning that before Clubs Expo, she didn’t know most of the clubs existed.

About Select Clubs

A Year 11 captain for Interact Club explained that the Interact Club is held both in and out of school. Members help people for both charity and for fun. It is a place where students can contribute to the wellbeing of the local community. As an example, members last year planted hundreds of trees.

Mr Buchholtz, supervising teacher of the Fencing Club, has planned to focus on 18th Century Medieval Fencing, which was practiced prior to Olympic fencing. The club intends to teach students how to gain confidence in wielding and defending themselves using a sabre. The club showed glimpses of how fencing works using a teacher-student demonstration.

Benefits of clubs

Joining a club provides students with an opportunity to make connections and to participate in upcoming school events such as the Performing Arts Harmony Showcase and the Show Must Go On. Both of these events are being overseen by Mr Jones, the supervising teacher of the Performing Arts Club.
