SA School Sports State Tennis Championships

Term 1 Sport is now in full swing!

Recently, we had 17 Year 7-12 students take part in the SA School Sports State Tennis Championships.  In order to progress through to the main draw, students had to win each of their matches, and those who lost their match, took part in a secondary competition. Some of our students made it through to the second round, which was a great effort considering the high level of competition and the numerous rain interruptions throughout each day.

City South District Swimming Carnival

We had a number of students take part in the City South District Swimming Carnival held at the Marion Outdoor Swimming Centre. Our swimmers performed extremely well, with many of them making the district swimming team which will be released very soon. Some of our results can be seen below:

SACSA Swimming

On Tuesday 2 March, our SACSA swimming team, (students from both campuses) competed in the annual SACSA Swimming Championships at the North Adelaide Aquatic Centre. This year, we had a team of 22 students, with our eldest competitor being only in Year 10. These competitors took part in 50m Freestyle, Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, 100m Freestyle and 4x50m Freestyle Relays across various age groups. Our students were involved in almost all events, putting in efforts above and beyond their favourite events, to achieve and enjoy success as part of a team.

In this competition, there were no divisions based on school enrolment size or achievements, and Emmaus came Runners Up with 277 points out of 18 schools, following Cedar who achieved 385 points.

Many records were broken throughout the competition with some of our previous students' records being smashed by up-and-coming competitive swimmers from other schools. We could soon be cheering these swimmers on while they represent our state or nation at significant events.

Weekly Sport

Our weekly Netball summer season has concluded for our Under 15 and Under 9 Netball teams, with the Under 9 team losing their semi-final last week. Our Under 11 team has made it to the Grand Final and are playing on Thursday 16 March at the SAUCNA Association courts. To all coaches, team managers, parents and players, thank you for all your efforts this summer season, and we look forward to having teams in the next summer season from Term 4. In our Basketball program, we continue to see our players and teams developing and doing well in their various competitions.

Register now for Winter Weekly Sport

Our Winter season registration forms for Basketball, Netball and Soccer have already been sent out to all families. It is important for you to register your child/ren who are interested in being involved to ensure they don't miss out, as well as teams not having enough numbers to be able to register. We understand that there is a lot of information to keep on top of, but the various sporting associations have their deadlines that we need to meet to be involved. We look forward to seeing your child's skills develop and grow throughout the winter season.

Upcoming Sport Events

The next major sporting events coming up are:

Year 7-12 Sports Day on Friday 17 March at Bowker Street Oval, 8.40am-3pm

Year 3-6 Sports Day on Friday 24 March at Bowker St Oval, 8.40am-2.30pm

Both of these events are compulsory for students to attend and support their Houses. We look forward to see which House team prevails this year!
