Year 12 Business Innovation Excursion

On Tuesday 7 March, Year 12 Business Innovation students attended the Start(Up) Academy held by Future Anything and Adelaide University's ThincLab. This day is a great opportunity for the students to connect with 400+ other students from around South Australia with entrepreneurship skills and idea brainstorming. The day started with keynote speakers including the Chief Entrepreneur of Australia, Andrew Nunn, and a Q&A session with the Chief Student Entrepreneur, Sam Messina.

The group then headed into a workshop with RAA, looking at generating ideas and products for a smarter home. The Year 12s came up with some very interesting, future-thinking ideas including:

  • A fridge that scans the items in the fridge and generates recipes to utilise the items on hand and minimise food wastage.
  • A home that uses compost, generated from their organic garden to produce biofuel to run the home, looking at environmental impacts of running a home.
  • A robot that uses solar power to clean your home focusing on time and convenience.

The second sessions were Masterclasses and our team attended the 'Perfecting Your Pitch' and 'The Future is Yours' classes. These sessions were fabulous learning opportunities with professionals in their field and showed the students ways to practically apply tools and skills to their business toolkit.

Year 12 Formal 2023

On Friday 10 March, we were able to have our Formal at Carrick Hill again this year, but earlier in the term to enjoy the advantages of Day Light Saving. A beautiful location and perfect weather were combined with attendance Year 12 parents, who were invited to pre-formal drinks (juice and soft drinks) for the first time in three years! It was a very enjoyable hour and set the community feel of the event, as well as provided many great photo opportunities.

Thank you to the student Formal committee who organised the 'finer' details and made it truly unique and special for the Class of 2023. Thank you also to the staff who attended and showed their support for our students, and to the staff who put in a big effort with setting up, tidying up and waiting for the last students to be collected. It all made a wonderful evening and a memorable rite of passage for the Year 12 cohort.

We look forward to sharing the professional photos with you soon.
