Principal's Report

Dear parents,
The importance of school attendance and arriving on time
At Macedon Primary School we have a deep held belief that student success is heavily influenced by regular attendance at school. Regular attendance at school enables children to access their full education, allowing them to achieve their full potential. Low attendance and late arrival to school can disrupt children’s learning continuum and make it difficult for them to form positive relationships with their peers. Arriving between 8:50am and 8:55am is a very simple way to support your child to be prepared for the day of learning.
Going to school every day is one of the single most important parts of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day. Attending and participating in school will help your child develop:
- important skills and knowledge to help them learn
- social and emotional skills such as good communication, resilience and team work.
Children who attend school every day and complete year 12 have:
- better health
- better job opportunities
- higher income across their lives.
There is no safe number of days for missing school. Each day a student misses puts them behind.
If you are experiencing any challenges with your child attending school, please feel free to chat with our wellbeing team who can provide you with support.
School Crossing Safety
This is a friendly reminder to use the crossings on Smith Street and Carrington Street safely. The local council crossing staff are there to improve the safety for all our students. Please use these crossings as they are designed and encourage your children to do the same by modelling positive and safe behaviour around the road.
Unfortunately, we witness unsafe driving and behaviour almost daily on both crossings.
- Please avoid doing U-turns on Smith Street during pick up and drop off times, our crossing supervisors regularly see parents completing U-turns on Smith Street during peak times.
- Please encourage your children to cross at the crossing, our crossing supervisors regularly see parents encouraging their children to cross the road outside of the crossing area.
All these small shifts in behaviour make it safer for everyone.
Head Lice Checks
Last week was the first of the headlice checks completed by a registered nurse. Live lice and/or eggs that then hatch into lice were found in the hair of approximately 25% of the students checked last week. These checks will help us detect, treat and eradicate head lice in our school. The checks are an opt-in service you can access by logging into Xuno and confirming permission for you child and paying the $20 annual fee.
World’s Greatest Shave - Casual Clothes Day – Gold Coin Donation
We are supporting Year 6 student, Lachlan, with his fundraising efforts on Friday this week. It is a going to be a casual clothes day where we invite students to wear casual clothes and bring a gold coin donation to contribute to Lachlan’s efforts. He is raising funds and awareness of blood cancer research and treatment. All the best and good luck Lachlan.
Kind regards and Sampai jumpa (until next time),
Matt
