Learning and Teaching

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A PARENT/CARER HELPER THIS YEAR IN THE JUNIOR SCHOOL?

We are calling on any parents/carers who would like to volunteer their time as `Parent/Carer Helpers’ in the Junior School this year, commencing in Term 2.

Our Literacy block runs from 8:55 am-10:55 am each morning and during this time children participate in partner/independent reading as well as a range of learning experiences related to Reading and Writing.

Parent/Carer assistance during these sessions (whether it be for part of the session or the whole time) is greatly appreciated by both the teachers and children.

If you would like to volunteer please email me at jforbes@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au and let me know the time/s (Reading: 8:55-9:55am and Writing: 9:55-10:55am) and day/s you are available to offer your assistance.

This is important as it will enable teachers to timetable parent helpers into their morning program. All volunteers must also have a current working with children check, with a copy to be provided to the school office before commencing in the learning space.

If you do volunteer to be a parent/carer helper I will be running an Information Session for helpers on Wednesday 5th April at 2:30 pm. Parents/carers only need to attend one session – please let me know which session you will be attending in your email. Please meet me at the front office at this time on the day you will be attending the session.

Thank you

LAMONT BOOK FAIR IS BACK FOR 2023!!

 Wednesday 29th March

Parent Teacher Interview Evening

SFS Community Room 2:00 – 8:30 pm

Our annual Lamont Book Fair is back once again this year!! The Book Fair has always been a big success at SFS, with a percentage of each book purchased given back to the school to redeem in new books for our School Library. The generosity of families has always been greatly appreciated and I know that children love going home with a new book to read!

Children will have the opportunity to view books on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning before books are available for purchase Wednesday afternoon. The Book Fair will be held in the school Community Room and will run from 2:00-8:30 pm. Parents, carers and children will be able to pop in BEFORE or AFTER their parent teacher interviews to purchase a book.

As always there will be a great selection available, as well as some really great specials on our $5 bargain trolley. There are also lots of great Activity Packs and books that will be great for children as we head into the school holidays.

So head down to the Community Room on Wednesday, have a browse and buy a book to enjoy. We hope to see you there.

The SFS Cross Country is on the last day of this term, Thursday April 6th and it will be held at school. Seniors will participate from 9.00-10.00 and Juniors 10.00-11.00. The track will start behind LS2 and go along the side of the basketball courts, out the gate near the blue playground, along the footpath, back in the gate across from the train station, along the front of the school and then back through the side of the basketball courts, to the oval.  Gates to the car park will be closed and there will be parents supervising along the track.

If parents need to enter the school they will need to use the pedestrian gate near the rainbow playground. Please use this gate only. Parents are attending to support their child we ask you to proceed to two areas where you can watch the cross country from. Please feel free to bring chairs, blankets… to sit on.

Students will be required to wear their sports uniform as they will be running, but we hope that they will wear a t-shirt that is in their house colour and wear other accessories such as hats, scarves… in their house colour.

Grade 3/4 continued their summer interschool sports rotations and Grade 5/6 continued their training. The next interschool sports match will now be next term.

GRADE 6 BIKE EDUCATION PARENT HELPERS

Due to timetabling issues and the fact we have had no parent volunteers, we have had to postpone Grade 6 Bike Education until Term 2. It will occur in Week 1, 2 and 4: 28/4, 5/4, 19.4. Parents are encouraged to collect their child’s bicycle from school so students can have it over the holidays and return it on Friday 28 April

We still need 2 parents to assist between 11.30 am -1.15 pm Friday on the above dates. Any parents across the school (Junior or Senior) who has a Working with Children Check registered with the school and is able to ride a bike and assist in supervising the Grade 6 students please contact Giuliana via email at gfaiola@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au

MELBOURNE FOOTY PLAYER VISITS

We are excited to inform you that we have been offered Melbourne Football Club’s School Player Visit on Tuesday 28th March (next week) from 12.30-1.30 pm. The session will be an hour in duration and will be split into a Question & Answer session followed by a clinic with the players visiting.

We can only have 60 students participate, so we have asked the Seniors who are interested to put their name in a ballot box by. Luckily all students who showed interest are able to attend. Parents whose child is attending have been provided with more information via Operoo.

I would also like to thank Avi, The Multicultural Development Officer working with The Melbourne Football Club, who provided us with this great opportunity.
