Sydenham/King's Park RMIT I Belong Day

Annually RMIT offer a 4 day “I Belong Tertiary Middle Year Experience Day” program (2 days are for Year 10 cohort at Sydenham and 2 days are for Kings Park year 10 cohort) for our Copperfield students. A selected number of teachers/Team Leaders as well as a member of the Careers Team attend this day with the students.

This year students were welcomed by the University staff and participated in a presentation by an RMIT student about the university and it’s many programs, pathways and scholarships and then they were escorted to 3-4 various workshops. This year’s workshops were focused on:

  • Space Science Workshop – students worked in small groups and learnt the science behind rockets and how they are launched into space. Combining science and engineering knowledge to work together to decide which rockets will travel the furthest and why.
  • Engineering – Students worked in small groups learning about the challenges engineers face and how they find solutions to real world problems. In this workshop students competed in teams to create an accommodation house/boat that could take the heaviest load without sinking.

  • IT – students through some hands on activities learnt about many facets of IT and computer games as well as the latest technology in gaming and robotics.
  • Mood Boards for Design – This workshop introduced students to mood boards and allowed them to let their inner creative genius shine by learning how to let someone climb inside the mind of a designer.
