School Photo Day

Our school photo day is coming up on Thursday 16th March.

Please make sure that your child is at school on this day (and on time) as there will be professional class group photos and individual student photos taken by MSP, our school photography partners.

You can easily order these photos via Compass. On the homepage of the app or the website, you should see an 'alert' that prompts you to place your online orders (see below). Orders must be placed before (or up to 1 week after) photo day or additional fees apply.

If you would like your children to have a sibling photo together, these must be ordered in advance (by 11pm on Wednesday 15th March) as MSP will only take sibling photos that have been pre-ordered.

NAPLAN

This morning saw the start of our annual NAPLAN tests for our Year 3 and 5 students.

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3 and 5 sit each year. NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy.

This morning was the Writing test for both year levels.

Traditionally held during May, this is the first year that NAPLAN tests have been run during term 1 and all of the tests (apart from the Year 3 writing) are now administered online.

Whilst we aim to prepare students to do their best on the tests, we do not believe in ‘teaching to the test’ - putting unnecessary pressure of students to perform and raising anxiety levels.

As a result of this approach, we were so impressed how calmly the students approached the situation and we will look forward to sharing their results with families later in the year.

RIDE TO SCHOOL DAY - Friday 24th March

National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel and one of the best days on the school calendar. It is a day full of fun and colour where students, teachers and parents discover the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for the future.

Students are encouraged to ride their bikes or scooters to school on this day. They will participate in a bicycle circuit and enjoy some fresh fruits and veggies. Foundation students will also get the chance to ride the smoothie bike and enjoy their very own berry smoothies.  If you want to decorate your helmet with recycled materials to help celebrate the event, go for it!

Remember part way is okay. If you can’t ride the whole way, why not try parking the car a few blocks from school and walk, ride or scoot the rest. Or if you live really close to school, why don’t you clock up some km and ride around the oval a couple of times before school.

Check out the bicycle network website for tips on bike maintenance and road rules or get involved with the St Kilda Bike Kitchen to learn how to fix your bike. They’ll be outside the Port Phillip EcoCentre for another Repair Café, 2-5pm, every 2nd Sunday of the month.
