Performing Arts Captains

I’m delighted to announce our Performing Arts Captains for 2023 are:

  • Captain:  Jacob Chang
  • Vice Captain (Music): Henrik Hogg
  • Vice Captain (Drama): Thomas Wilkins

I know these young men will do a terrific job in raising an awareness of the Performing Arts throughout the school and I look forward to presenting them to the College community with Mr Ronchetti at this Friday’s Cocurricular Assembly.

St Pius X musicians on the radio!

Four of our Year 12 students have formed a band called ‘Maximum Niceage’ and recently appeared on the local community radio station, Northside Radio (99.3). Ben Cutbill, Zavier Domenici, Luke Sarkissian and Robbie Sapuppo were interviewed about their music and their recent album release called Amirite that they have independently produced. The presenters from Northside Radio were very impressed with the original music and the manner in which the boys conducted the interview. They said: 'They were an absolute credit to the school,' and that 'Their maturity was exceptional'. Well done to these fine musicians who also performed at the Founders Day in 2022 and are looking to do similar performances this year.

The 39 Steps

We have now set up the Sarto as our rehearsal room with the props and set, and costumes are arriving this week. Last Sunday we had our first rehearsal with the band. They certainly woke up the actors and helped focus the action. Mr Cummins is doing an amazing job transcribing the music I have chosen and working with a fine bunch of musicians.

Sunday 2 April is our first Dress Rehearsal where the students get a chance to try on their costumes and hairstyles. The musicians and sound operator will join us for our last major in the Sarto before our bump-in at the Zenith Theatre on Monday 3 April. This is a culmination of over 6 months work, and I have been also helped by the wonderful parents from PAPA, especially Gabe and James Donlevy who have sourced difficult props and set. It is all now coming together, and we are almost sold out so please get yourself one of the last tickets – even if your son is not in the show. It is a funny and exciting production, and we would love to see you there!

Friday 31 March 3.30 pm – 6:00 pm – All cast & musicians

Sunday 2 April 9:30 am – 4:00 pm running the show with all sound and music cues

Monday 3 April BUMP INTO the Zenith Theatre (actors, tech will be given their call times)

Year 7 Chase Activity

I was very impressed with my Year 7 Drama classes and the quality of work submitted for their first task. Students were asked to create a cops and robbers type Cartoon Chase. However, they were given the option to submit on different formats. So many students chose to write, film and record their own mini movies or stop-motion animation. The quality of work was humorous and engaging, with many students opting to have a go at the extension task.

Students who should be commended are:

Fletcher Kennedy, Finn Baker, Chase King, Miles Moran, Nate Riley, Jackson Byak, Joshua Hourigan, Joshua Perry, Yuma Shimoda Chehab, Rayan Alexander, Mason Dabile, Justin Meza, Oliver Pavely, Lachlan Dormer, Heath Foxall, Marc Floridia, Patrick Hu, Matthew Liang, Archie Wragg and Franko Zaknic.

Please see below a selection of work from the Year 7 students:
