Academic Reporting and Parent Teacher Meetings 2023
To assist with planning, outlined below is the schedule for Parent Teacher meetings and the distribution of Interim and Semester 1 Academic Reports.
Interim and Mid-Course reports
The purpose of Interim and Mid-Course reports is to provide an initial indication of how your son is fulfilling the course requirements for each of his subjects. He is expected to:
1. Apply himself with diligence and sustained effort to the set tasks and experiences provided in the course by the College; and
2. Achieve some or all of the course outcomes.
Teachers have reported on your son’s progress in the following attributes:
SELF-MANAGEMENT
The extent to which the student is punctual, prepared and organised for the lesson.
APPLICATION
The degree of application, engagement, and preparedness to learn.
INDEPENDENT LEARNING
The ability of the student to be able to direct their own growth and find purpose in their learning.
HOME STUDIES
The level of application to the completion of homework, assignments, revision and study tasks.
COOPERATIVE BEHAVIOUR
The degree to which the student cooperates with the teacher and their peers demonstrating courtesy and respect.
Teachers will assess your son based on his demonstrated level of standard for each attribute. Please refer to pages 20 and 21 of the College Student Diary. The student learning attributes can also be viewed HERE.
Please do not hesitate to contact any of your son's teachers regarding his progress. It is also important to regularly check his student planner for teacher notes as well as CANVAS.
You are encouraged to use the information in this report to celebrate your son’s progress as a student and to help him set realistic goals for future improvement.

Languages
Open Day video
In preparation for Open Day the Languages Department compiled a video of our language students introducing our College in both Mandarin and French. Students were also given the opportunity to display their language skills and delivered information about themselves in their language of study.
We hope you enjoy the attached video.

Science
Year 11 Biology
Year 11 Biology students have been busy making terrariums as an introduction to their “Ecosystem Dynamics” module. A terrarium is an enclosed, self-sustaining ecosystem with a fine balance of nutrients, light, water, and gases. Students will be using their terrarium to demonstrate natural processes such as cellular respiration, photosynthesis, decomposition, plant reproduction and the water, carbon and nitrogen cycles. Once stable, the terrariums will be permanently sealed and could potentially thrive indefinitely.

Peer Support
Peer Support Session 6
This week in Peer Support, the groups continue to work through their programs, Year 5, Keeping Friends – focusing on relationships, and Year 7, Rethinking Challenges – a focus on resilience.
Year 5
In this week’s Peer Support session, the Year 5’s will be exploring how to join groups and how to accept others into their friendship group. The activities will give the students a chance to practise these skills, as well as how to say 'no' in a respectful way, cope with being told no and inviting others to join them.
Year 7
Many skills and processes that our young people need to become independent have to be explicitly taught to them. This week in Peer Support the Year 7’s will investigate the skills of critical and flexible thinking. These skills allow them to gather information, brainstorm possibilities and think logically to plan and make decisions. This knowledge is transferrable and applicable to most situations in their lives during the school years and beyond. The highly effective strategy of taking a break is also discussed this week.
