Physical Education Report Week 10

Grade 2: Tennis/Two Hand Strike

The Year 2’s continue their unit on Tennis. Building on the strengths they have gained from learning the Two Hand Strike which can be used in a variety of different sports, the year 2 students have been working on their hand eye coordination, balancing the ball and volleying the ball towards a target. It is great to see that we have some budding Australian Open Champions at SoGS!

Grade 3: Teeball

The Year 3’s have continued to build on their knowledge of Tee Ball over the last two weeks. Again, using the Two Handed Strike, they are introduced to striking the ball off a specialised Tee. The students have been also working on their fielding technique and are working on developing strategies to use during a game.

Grade 4: Hockey

The Year 4’s are having an absolute ball whilst continuing on learning the wonderful game of Hockey. Seerat, a Specialised coach from Hockey Victoria has been engaging the students in the skills necessary to become a successful Hockey Player. The mouthguards have also been a hit! Students have worked on controlling the ball, dribbling and defending.

Grade 5: Netball

The Grade 5 students have continued learning about Netball. Through a Special Government Grant, we were able to secure the services of Yvette who is a Netball Victoria Affiliated coach. Her knowledge and expertise in the area of netball has been immeasurable. The students are now in their final two lessons of learning about netball player and the skills necessary to become a successful netball and are very much looking forward to playing it in the Winter Interschool Sport Season.

Grade 6: Lacrosse

The Grade 6 students have been lucky to engage with Rachel from Lacrosse Victoria. Lacrosse is not a very common sport and it is great that we have the opportunity to present the children with a learning experience that is not very common in the PE classroom. The students have learnt about passing, defending, and running with the stick and ball. They are very much looking forward to playing a full game in the coming weeks.
