Literacy

Chris Catterall (P-2) and Jemma McVeigh (3-6)

What an amazing term it has been in Literacy!!!

There is an awesome buzz around the school from children as they are finishing off publishing writing pieces that they have been working on for the last 10 weeks!

Stay tuned parents as our students are excited to share in their growth and achievements at our upcoming CELEBRATION OF LEARNING event!

Our students are encouraged to reflect on themselves as writers and how they have journeyed through the writing process of:

  • Generating ideas
  • Planning
  • Drafting
  • Conferencing/Feedback
  • Revising
  • Conferencing/Feedback
  • Editing
  • Conferencing/Feedback
  • Publishing

Quite often our students express how proud they are of themselves and how they have CONQUERED the Learning Pit when frustrated that they can not find the right word, or their idea still is not making sense or they are not quite sure how to act on a piece of feedback. Our teachers provide tools, strategies and “hold space” for students to navigate their way through the Learning Pit so that they develop life-long learning skills. By up-skilling students to be ‘assessment-capable learners’ they learn how to keep moving forward with their learning by seeking regular feedback and taking action on that feedback. Congratulations to all of our students for their amazing growth in literacy this term!!!

A special mention to these three students, Gabriella, Joseph and Chloe who have demonstrated that they can CONQUER the Learning Pit by:

  • seeking regular feedback from their teacher and peers
  • acting on that feedback
  • using the learning intention and success criteria to set high expectations for themselves
  • utilising a range of tools to ‘up-level’ their writing
  • persist when feeling challenged
  • take responsible risks by experimenting with ambitious vocabulary and by thinking out-side the box!!

WELL DONE!!!
