Visual Communication - Felix M 9G
In Year 9 Visual Communication this year we have just finished our first CAT. In this CAT we had to design a poster for a festival. People made posters for many different festivals, ranging from a carnival to a rock music festival.
Year 9 High Performance Excursion - James F 9G
On Tuesday 21st March the three Year 9 High Performance classes went to Clifford Park to complete a series of challenges. These challenges were orienteering and a survival course called Challenge Valley. For the orienteering part we were given a map with 16 locations across the park. Our challenge was to find as many locations as we could within 45 minutes. The other activity we did was Challenge Valley, which is a survivor obstacle course; the aim of the course is to complete it as fast as possible. Overall, we had an amazing time and learnt great lessons about leadership and teamwork along the way.
English - Milly T 9C
In Term 1 of this year the Year 9 English CAT was based around the movie ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’, showing the adventures of a young boy Ricky and his adoptive father Hector on a wild chase through the bush of New Zealand. Year 9 classes then looked into the key themes shown in this movie - coming of age, perseverance, self-reliance, authority and family, and then used our knowledge of these themes to write a creative piece. We focused on using different techniques to really hook the reader in in the first couple of sentences to engage them. Most of us used some complex punctuation which was applied to create certain effects and feelings, as well as using dialogue to show relationships and reveal the personality of our chosen characters. Expanding our horizons wider, we also described the use of the five senses with very descriptive language, making the situation seem like the reader was really there, whilst also making sure we avoided cliches when using figurative language devices. Overall we all tried our hardest and hope that the creative pieces we created can clearly show our understanding of this movie and how we interpreted it, including of course our own creative minds.

We would like to congratulate the Year 9 cohort on a fantastic start to the year, settling into C-Wing, classes and electives and the successful completion of NAPLAN. We are excited to build on the positive learning of all young people with the continuous display of the College Values; Excellence, Respect and Responsibility.
