First Nations

Tanna Hardinge

This month, our First Nations students have had the pleasure of discussing the Year 12 VCE-VM student project, led by Caitlin Lunnon and Lara Kinder. Tahlia Tweedie pitched the ideas of her class to the Mob Monday group for the project; a sensory garden with a mural created by an Aboriginal artist. Tahlia, her teachers, and peers will continue to work on this project throughout the year. We are looking forward to seeing it come to life!

In other news, our staff members are proudly wearing their new First Nations LHC Polo Shirts which have been loved by many! These shirts have been designed by Danielle Leedie Gray for Dezigna and the artwork on the shirts symbolises teachers and mentors working with schools and educational facilities to help close the gap.

On March 30, a group of our Middle and Senior school First Nations students travelled into Albert Park Lake to attend the Formula 1 Grand Prix, on behalf of the Deadly Science organisation. Students participated in a tailored program ‘Driving Learning’ initiative which provides students with a unique opportunity to witness the most technologically advanced sport in the world, whilst developing an understanding of the careers that may develop from the pursuit of STEM subjects. Students had the incredible opportunity to have a ‘Meet and Greet’ with a selection of F1 drivers, tour Pit Lane and Paddock Lane, experience the National Media Center Tour and participate in the Welcome to Country.
