Year 7 Camp - We Belong

No one could question that school is about learning but not everyone appreciates that many of the most memorable lessons are delivered outside of the classroom. The lessons on resilience can happen as students embrace the struggle of a tough homework question for Math. The lesson of patience is delivered while you sit and wait your turn in the canteen line or for the teacher to help you with a class task . The lesson of self awareness as you reflect on an argument had with a friend over something trivial. The lesson of organization as you serve the consequence of not being in correct uniform.... again.

In the past fortnight we have had two particular opportunities to reflect on the breadth of what is offered at St. Peter's College and the absolute generosity of spirit of our staff and students. The Year 7 Camp (read some comments below) where the theme of "We Belong" was reinforced with activities that challenged and engaged our students and the Discovery Evening where our students volunteered selflessly to show off a school they clearly love, to prospective families. You can read about this in other parts of this Newsletter.

The lesson I was reminded of is that given the right opportunities in life and at school, every young person can thrive.

" At camp I found out some things about Mr Crawford and Mr DeGoldi. I learnt that Mr Crawford is super athletic and fit. He climbed the Hardest rock wall with ease and in only a few seconds he also climbed up an almost vertical hill with us that was difficult to climb. By the end of it we were dead, and Mr Crawford was fine. I also found out that Mr DeGoldi Loves Elton John and his favorite song is I’m still standing. What a coincidence Group 4  won???? …..  it was rigged in my opinion.”
