Holidays are nearly upon us

For many parents’ holidays can provide the opportunity to reconnect as a family amid our busy lives. For other parents, it is time when their young people are left alone to amuse themselves as work for parents continues during the school holidays. In both situations, holidays can cause some concern as young people use their spare time to engage more in online activities which as we know can be productive or harmful depending on content, context, and connections. Holidays can also be a time of semi-isolation for some students as their friendships rely on the social connectivity of being at school. To support parents and students in navigating a more successful and productive holiday we are hosting two very special events.

1. Thursday, 29 March 2023: Year 12 parents and students Evening.

This is a specific event tailored to the needs of year 12 students and their parents. Critical support, information and advice is provided by leading experts, this year from Elevate, our counsellors, careers, and curriculum leaders. This evening is for all year 12 students, VCE and Vocational Major, VET, the only criteria is that your child is in year 12. If you have not already, please respond to the Operoo notification of this very special event. The final year of school for your year 12 child is hectic, special, difficult, confusing and many other emotions. Come along and share in the uniqueness of this year with other parents. We promise it will be a most significant and enjoyable event.

Our lives are busy and sometimes the thought of going out to a school event after work, can feel a little difficult. However as a community we feel it important that our young people understand the relevance and importance of connections between family and school. They will only know when we as school and parents get together through events such as these.

I look forward to sharing a bite to eat with you provided by our VET Hospitality students before these important evenings.

Celebrating Harmony Week

Harmony Week is celebrated annually in March across Australia. It’s aimed at promoting diversity, respect, and inclusiveness. This event is an excellent opportunity for parents to teach their children about different cultures, traditions, and customs. The goal is to encourage everyone to appreciate and celebrate differences and promote a sense of community and belonging for everyone.During Harmony Week, local councils including the city of Casey are holding events and activities held to bring people from different cultures together. These activities include multicultural food festivals, cultural performances, art exhibitions and workshops. Participating in these events helps children to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse communities that make up Australia.

As a parent, you can engage your children in discussions about multiculturalism and encouraging them to ask questions. Promoting a more harmonious and inclusive society, can help children grow up with a greater appreciation for the richness and diversity of Australia's cultural landscape. In conjunction with parents, we hold our annual Harmony Day festival, this year on 28 March 2023. It is a joyous occasion filled with colourful and vibrant national and tradition dress, dance, music, and food. Once again our Vocational Major students will be providing us with a smorgasbord of culinary delights.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to talk to your young children and encourage them to share their heritage, culture, and traditions by actively participating in our Harmony Day celebrations. Through harmony we can instil positive values and develop a better understanding of diversity and multiculturalism. Keep a watch on our Facebook page next week for photographs of our Harmony Day activities.

I wish you all a safe and productive week.
