Year 12 Biology Excursion

On 3 March 2023, the Year 12 Biology class of Clyde North went on an excursion to Casey Tech, Berwick. The excursion was an additional learning opportunity for the class before their SAC. During the excursion we got to test our knowledge of bacterial transformation and participated in a practical task of genetically modifying bacteria to make it glow. We worked in pairs to attempt to complete the practical investigation. This experience provided us with the opportunity to utilize real world science tools and equipment such as micropipettes, agar trays, bacteria and incubators. We also learnt the protocols that are conducted in real world science labs such as ways to avoid contamination and the appropriate use of PPE. The class found the excursion very beneficial to their understanding of bacterial transformation and felt the experience enhanced their knowledge and skills of Unit 3, area of study 1. A special thank you to Mrs Joseph who took us on the excursion and made a memorable day :)

"From the College Archives"

St. Peter’s College has had a proud tradition of healthy sporting competition between students dating to the founding days of the Cranbourne Campus.

Initially, the main competitions were Athletics and Swimming, and the competition was between the four teams that were represented by the colours blue, green, red, and yellow.

With the advent of the current house system in 2012, the competition doubled, as it was conducted between the eight houses not the four teams. The then Sports Manager, Mr. Justin De Goldi, made mention in The Rock of 2012 of the ‘heightened sense of excitement and competition when these events (the Swimming Carnival and Athletics Carnival) have come around.’ These two carnivals are attended by the whole school: students and staff.

St. Peter’s College also conducts a third carnival: the Cross Country Carnival. It is conducted annually but unlike the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, only the students who wish to compete are involved.

Whilst the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals have a long history, the history of the Cross Country Carnival, as it is today, is comparatively short. Although the Carnival began in 2014, there are references in early editions of The Rock of the College Cross Country, as opposed to ‘carnival.’ The inaugural winner of the Cross Country Carnival in 2014 was Assisi House. Other winners have been MacKillop (twice), Augustine, Avila and Glowrey. Assisi House have won the shield three times.

The Carnival allows students to highlight their athleticism and is used to select the St. Peter’s Cross Country Team for the Southern Independent Schools (SIS) competition.

The various carnivals are an example of the means by which St. Peter’s College seeks to educate the whole person: Spiritually, Academically and Physically.

Community Engagement Survey

How do you currently engage with Council?

We know that belonging to a community is important and being able to share your thoughts and provide input into local decision-making processes should be a relatively simple process.

Over the last few years, we have heard that as a community, Casey residents would like us to share more information about issues that affect them and be provided with greater opportunities to provide input into Council decision-making processes.

The City of Casey would now like to hear from you on how we can improve the way we reach out to you and seek your opinion on a range of important issues and decisions.

We have developed a short survey below to help understand what is important to you and how we can best share information with you in the future. We hope you will take a few minutes of your time to share your views with us.

By completing the survey you will go in the draw to win one of two $250 EFTPOS vouchers.

The survey will be open from Friday, 10 February 2023 to Monday, 27 March 2023.
