Dhanganna, Hello, Rojbash, Is it really Week 10 of term already?
Team 1 at ASC has seen so much progress and success for our learners, particularly in the area of Student Voice and leadership. Our Senior Student Leadership Team recently travelled to Sydney to participate in the Youth Leadership Academy’s State Leadership Conference. Our young change-makers took inspiration from the influential guest speakers and developed their leadership skills further along with young leaders from across the state. Our Senior Student Leadership team have been instrumental in preparing for the reinvigoration of student leadership within the school, working with Mrs. Holmes on a structure for selecting student voice representatives.
This process will begin next term. Students will self nominate for a leadership position within their year group and this nomination will need to be endorsed by their year adviser and another member of staff. Students will submit an endorsed nomination and from this group of students in each year group those 3 nominations will be randomly selected from a draw to represent on the leadership group. Students will make the decision if we call this a Student Representative Council or choose another name.
Our Future Teachers Club which is part of the Professional Experience Hub program at ASC is this week working with their Future Teacher peers at Macquarie Fields High School (MFHS). Our students travelled down to Macquarie Fields to participate in reciprocal lessons with the MFHS future teachers and to learn more about careers in teaching and the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Macquarie Fields have been running their club for ten years and now have former members returning as graduate teachers to their school. Whilst MFHS is a very different cohort to us at ASC, their experiences and success will allow us to learn from and adapt to our own circumstances. There will be a reciprocal visit next term when MFHS students will stay in Armidale and have a rural teaching and learning experience. Many thanks to Tanya Williams and Jess Brennan for their work with our Future Teachers.
One of the great opportunities for the visiting Metropolitan students next term will be participating in agriculture on a whole different level from what they are used to at their own school. A huge congratulations to our Agriculture Club and Cattle Team who have been winning ribbons and demonstrating across our region what an incredible group of young people they are. Thank you to Mr Fisher for his mentoring of our team and his work in establishing some fine traditions for our school for the future in agriculture. Good luck to the team for their Sydney Royal Show competitions next week. Thanks also to our P&C who have donated funds for a new Team banner and uniforms for the show.
Our ASC Canteen is run by our P&C and profits from the Canteen are donated back into the school to support our students. After the March P&C meeting we now have a new executive team. Thank you to these parents who give up their time to support all of our ASC students. Thanks also to the outgoing P&C executive who have set up wonderful processes as our school has started and for the support of the school and the canteen staff. P&C meetings are held on the last Thursday of the month in the Staff Common Room on the 2nd floor in A Block and new members are always welcome.

This Saturday, The Autumn Festival will return to Armidale after a couple of years interruption. Armidale Secondary College will be marching with our partner primary schools under the Armidale Community of Schools (ACOS) Banner. Our Proudly Public schools which include, Armidale City PS, Ben Venue PS, Drummond Memorial PS, Kellys Plains PS, Martins Gully PS Newling PS and Sandon PS are working across our community to build a better future for all of our students. Staff from each of the ACOS schools are working on a program called ‘Curiosity and Powerful Learning’ to move our schools towards excellence in all areas. Later in the year we will be presenting a creative art spectacular “A night with ACOS” which will showcase the incredible work that is occurring in all of our Public Schools.
Any students who are participating in the parade this weekend should wear full school uniform and Autumn hats and head dressers are optional. We will be marshalling at 12pm on the corner near Smith House. It would be great to have the streets lined with supporters for our school.
I recognise that communication on this event has been late. Unfortunately, our school has been at the mercy of outside influences for this event, and we have not been made aware of organisation until the last minute, but we do want to showcase our important role in the Armidale Community.
Please take the time to read through our communication protocols.
