 EVATT 2021 - Update

The Queensland State Final for Evatt was held on Sunday 29 August. From the Mock UN Security Council of 15 member countries, five are selected to represent their state at the National Finals in December. Congratulations to Jaspar Driml 11S and Joseph Lewis 10F whose debating and negotiating skills earned them an invitation to represent Marist College Ashgrove and Queensland at the National Finals.

Tournament of Minds

The end of the 2021 Tournament of Minds season is quickly approaching and the teams are focussed on producing creative and interesting solutions to the challenges. I have been particularly impressed by the consistent effort that I have noticed with all teams this year. I would like to draw special attention to the senior students who have volunteered to work with some of the teams. Their leadership, patience and support of the younger boys has been outstanding. Our Year 12 and 11 mentors include Sam Allpass, Zac Apelt, Wil Canning, James Gurr, Eamon Madden, Finn McDougall and Tomas Ruiz. Additionally, the Year 10 students in the secondary teams have also been leading the younger members of their groups and sharing their knowledge and experience. Regardless of the results this year, 2021 has already been a very successful year.

Filming of presentations needs to be completed on or before Saturday 11 September. It is important that all team members communicate with their facilitators – Ms Robyn Brown, Mrs Prue Maclean, Mrs Anntoinette Restell, Mr Andrew Devoy, Mrs Bonita Gerry, Ms Judith Jones, Ms Clara Sandona or me about their availability for filming on Saturday 11 September. Alternative times can be arranged if necessary, but tomorrow (Wednesday 1 September) is the deadline for sharing that information. Please do not hesitate to contact me or your son’s facilitator if you have any questions.
