Two weeks ago, our community was saddened by the loss of Mrs Eunice Chrystall. Eunice was a strong advocate for Molong Central School having, been awarded Life Membership to the Molong Central School P&C Association. Eunice continued to think about Molong Central School even in her last days and requested donations be made to the School Music Program rather than towards flowers for her funeral. We would like to pay tribute to Eunice and her family for her generosity and support over the years. I am sure there are many former students who remember being mentored by Eunice through the Plan-It-Youth Initiative and her contribution to the Music program will continue to benefit students in the future.
This week our daily attendance figure has increased, and I would like to thank all families for continuing to follow the COVID 19 health advice which helps us maintain a safe operating environment. Every day counts, and as you may see in the flyer attached, missing one day per fortnight equates to missing a years’ worth of schooling over a child's time at school, so, I encourage all parents to support their child’s education by making sure attendance at school is a priority, unless of course a child is sick or presents with flu like symptoms.
This year a significant aspect of our School Improvement Plan aims to upskill teachers using innovative and evidence-based professional learning in Numeracy. K-12 teachers have engaged in significant opportunities and already some students are benefitting from these newly acquired skills. The focus on numeracy aims to increase the number of students achieving in the top two bands. It has been exciting working with experts within our school and with the Department of Education and I am looking forward to watching the numeracy skills of all of our students improve, as a result of the intense focus.
We are forging ahead with our Higher School Certificate students with their trial examinations set to begin. We feel fortunate to have been able to conduct lessons in a relatively unchanged learning environment on site. Early Entry offers have been received by several students and I have noticed a renewed focus from Year 12 towards their studies.
Bethany Johnston, who was a former Molong Central Student, has joined us for her practicum. Bethany has already completed her Visual Arts degree and is now focused on completing the education component of her studies to become a teacher. There is something very special for our teachers in seeing a former student return to teach and I am sure Bethany will be an inspiration to our students studying Art.
