A message from Margie

Spring is here!

I was inspired by the persistence of these jonquils bursting through the bitumen at the entrance to the school recently.  I think we are all ready to push through into the sunshine after a long winter, don't you?

Gardening

What a great time to be out in the garden. Did you know that Jo Higginson runs gardening sessions with our students every year? Students in years 2-5 work in small groups of 6-10 with Jo to learn about environmental sustainability and to follow the produce from 'paddock to plate', with 3 garden lessons followed by a cooking class.  Students also learn about a wide variety of sustainable gardening topics such as propagating, looking after compost, worm farming, bees,  insects, and waste.

Community-minded

We continue to enjoy our community-minded theme as an elaboration of the Give strand of our school motto Learn Stand Give Fly

This week students have volunteered to run lunchtime activities for others. It came up as a suggestion at our SRC (Student Representative Council) meeting as a way of giving to our student community and we were overwhelmed with how many offered their time to others when asked. Some of the activities being offered are: football, book club, Uno club, chess, colouring club, investigating club, board games, oval games club, fitness club, art club, gymnastics club, dancing club, netball, paper planes club and film club.  Some activities are being run by older and younger students together; again a lovely part of the community of students here at Uraidla PS.

Our kids are always happy to contribute where they can. Here some of our Senior students are creating a FINISH banner for the the Imagine Uraidla Climate Action & Renewable Energy group (IUCA&RE)  E-Bike event Charge Up the Hill . The banner will mark the end point of the event at the Sustainability Fair and Market, being held on the 3rd of Oct, the Sunday of the October weekend.

I often hear stories about how our school families care for one another, and this week I have one to share. Last week I had a lovely email from Anna Price who wanted to thank the community for their care following an injury :

Todd and I would like to thank the Uraidla Primary School community for their care and support over the last 3 months while I have recovered from a foot injury, sustained in an accident. We are so grateful for all the lasagnas, pasta bakes and cakes that were cooked and delivered, for the pick-ups and drop-offs to kindy, school and netball trainings, the invitations for play dates and the support given through listening over cups of tea. I wouldn’t ever want a repeat of the incident, but it has further demonstrated to us how lucky we are to live in this amazing, generous and thoughtful community. We have felt really supported by our new friends and neighbours and we look forward to giving back to this community in the years to come.

Thank you,  Anna Price

Aren't we lucky to belong to this caring community? When families lead by example like this we are sure to have children who grow into citizens who will continue to care for others in society, and strengthen the connections within their own community which help us all to thrive.

More yard improvements

Have you seen our new seats and planter boxes up by the double glass doors, made by Darren Bond? Darren has once again put his creative and building skills to work and come up for a lovely seating area for kids and families alike.  He is now busily planning an amphitheatre for the edge of the oval, so watch this space!

Stars in the Arena

Thank you to the parents who drove our choir stars to the Entertainment Centre for their rehearsal and performance: Brad Wilksch, Cara Serotzki, Darren Bond, Andrew Gardner and Bek Schapel. Thank you especially to Trinity's mum Bek who gave up so much of her time as choir helper at both the full day rehearsal and the 10 hour on the performance day.

It was certainly a spectacular performance with a choir of over 1300 students singing together! Lizzie and I were so impressed with the quality of the performance and the wonderful opportunity for our students that we have even bigger plans for our school's involvement next year.

Congratulations to all of our performing choir students and to Zane Sheldrick who performed in the orchestra on percussion. You are all stars to us!

Save the date!

Finally please mark Tuesday November 2 in your diaries for a Cyber Safety parent information session to be held at school (more info in School News section).  Parents and Friends and Governing Council members have been interested in a session of this kind for some time, and I am really pleased to finally be able to let you know we can go ahead, by adhering to COVID restrictions. The Parents and Friends are also hoping to host a wine tasting event directly following the info session, to launch their wine fundraiser for Term 4, and I know you won't want to miss it.

Thank you and have a great weekend everyone!
