Principal's Report

Thoughts from our Acting Principal - Mrs Karen Jagers

Term 3

And so, we officially close the doors today for Term 3 for our student community. Preparation for quality teaching and learning for Term 4 will quietly and dedicatedly happen behind the scenes by the teaching staff, in preparation for what we all hope will be a smoother term. Despite our past COVID experiences, those which we are currently living by and those which may impact us in the future, it demonstrates that we must find ways to be innovative, more resilient  and mindful of the wellbeing of ourselves and each other. Our collective school community has given this a really good shot.

School Attendance

Next term commences on Tuesday October 5th. With the hopeful opportunity for a smoother Term 4, I am raising attention to the requirement for school attendance for each child to be at its maximum point, that is in attendance every day and on time, unless there is a medical reason or significant other reason. Schools have the responsibility to monitor student attendance and follow up on student absences which raise concern. A day absent from school is a day which is never regained. Principals have the right to request medical certificates and decline to accept as satisfactory an explanation for an absence.

NAPLAN

Please see the media release by Director of Schools, Chris Smyth, around our diocesan schools’ NAPLAN performance. St Joseph’s Glen Innes produced strong results across a range of areas to be celebrated.  Please see the media release from Catholic Schools Office at end of my news item.

Term 4 COVID Landscape

Currently, we are operating on Level 3 NSW Health Order Restrictions. I will provide any update received over the school break around this, if and when it is amended.

Under these current restrictions, transitions, orientations and large gatherings are some of the activities on hold for us.

Thank You

The extended time for myself from Term 3 only, to now Term 4, was an easy decision to make. Great school, staff, students and parent community (small sample due to COVID restrictions) is a positive draw card! I am hopeful we can throw open the doors in Term 4 and enjoy previous school experiences including recommencing our P&F and School Advisory Council.

Best wishes to our students and families for a well deserved two week break from the routines of school life.
