This term, Year 7s are studying books from four different authors. During Lockdown 5.0, students were asked to research and complete an author profile as part of distance learning. Here are some examples of the fantastic work done by our students, displaying their researcher, communicator and self-manager learning assets.

This week, the Year 7s have been making cupcakes with buttercream icing. The initial stages of the class were chaotic, however, once the students got going there was lots of communication and happiness as people moved around the spaces, collaborating and discussing the steps in the recipe. It was a hive of activity! Students enjoyed decorating the cupcakes and several indulged in the leftover icing, some with regret. It has been a delightful time in the kitchen.

Recently in Food Tech, the Year 7 unit made cupcakes. We were given a recipe and a double session to make them. There were three possible flavours: vanilla, chocolate and lemon. My partner was Sinead and the flavour we chose was lemon. The night before, I decided to make lemon candies to use as toppings. When I got home I shared my cupcakes with my family - they loved them.
- Lillian Richardson, Year 7
School of Innovation students are encouraged to dress up as a book character as part of Book Week celebrations. Book Week will be held from August 21-27 and this year's theme is Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds. A date for the dress-up day is yet to be confirmed and will be subject to COVID restrictions at the time, however it's never too early for the students to start planning their costumes!
