YEAR 8 CAMPUS NEWS

WELCOME
I would like to welcome the families of all Year 8 students to the Mercy Campus for 2018.
It has been a very quick to start to the year however, the early signs are that all students have settled in well and beginning to understand how the Mercy Campus operates. Hopefully you have all received an email from your child’s Pastoral Care Group teacher about the year and their expectations for 2018.
If at any time you have any questions or concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact their Pastoral Care Group teacher in the same way that you would have contacted their Homeroom teacher last year.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind parents and families of the pick up and drop off protocols put in place for everyone’s safety at the Mercy Campus. There is a designated pick up and drop off spot at the front of the Mercy Theater (inside the campus grounds). Students are not to be picked up or dropped off on Eleventh Street or Riverside Avenue. These spaces are both designated bus zones.
Welcome once again to the Mercy Campus and I am sure that we have a great year ahead of us.
Mr Marcus Parker
YEAR 8 OPEN WATER PROGRAM
On Monday February 12, all Year 8 students will participate in the Open Water Learning Experience run by Life Saving Victoria.
Two sessions will be run by LSV representatives from Melbourne for our students at Apex Park.
The sessions will include a range of activities designed to improve students’ knowledge of risks and how to stay safe in open water environments; this summer has seen an increase in the number of drownings across Victoria, therefore the content is as important as ever – especially for us, living beside the Murray River.
A note detailing the experience will be handed to all students by their core group teachers during Week 2.
Please contact Mr Tim Hassell if you require additional information.
HUMAN POWERED VEHICLE PROGRAM
Year 8 students are invited to nominate for the Human Powered Vehicle program in 2018.
During the year students will train and learn how to race in events in Adelaide and Maryborough. Applications are open for boys and girls to participate in the program, further details will be available shortly.
Any student interested should email Mr Parker with their expression of interest as soon as possible.
