From the Technology Class

In technology classes, Year 3 and 4 have just started a unit on photographing familiar objects. Year 5 and 6 students are exploring portraiture.

So far we have explored how angles, lighting and distance effect images.

Prep

The Prep students have been really good Auslan learners to start the year. We have been learning how to sign the alphabet, how to sign different colours, they have been introduced to the game Up/Down, and the students have even begun to practice how to spell their own name in Auslan. Prep D was very lucky last week to have a guest teacher from Grade 1F, Raf, who came in and taught the students how to sign the alphabet, some numbers, as well as some family signs. Thanks Raf!

Year 1 and 2

Year 1 and 2 cohorts have continued to build on their learning from last year, So far this term we have had a focus on consolidating our knowledge of the fingerspelled alphabet, as well as building on the knowledge of the signs for numbers. Year 2 students have learned how to sign up to 9999. Lastly, Year 1 and 2 students have been practicing basic conversation skills, such as when you first meet someone.

Year 3 and 4

Year 3 and 4 students have been building on their previous knowledge by developing their signing skills for topics such as numbers and greetings. Year 3 and 4 students have this week been introduced to the topic ‘Feelings and Emotions’. Excitingly the Year 3 and 4 students have been using technology quite a lot in the previous two weeks and I believe it is going to be really valuable to their learning. The students are very engaged using IPads as a learning tool and the iPads allow for more diverse classroom activities and lessons.

From EAL Classroom

EAL students Years 1 - 6 have been discussing and writing about the languages they speak, their family, their home and neighbourhood and more!  We look forward to working with the Prep EAL students in Term 2.

Our EAL students are loving working in our mini-classroom, especially now that we have a new pet yabby.

We have called our  yabby’s  ‘Nine’, because he only has nine legs.

When we look at the make-up of NMPS students, we have found that 49 different languages are spoken by our students at NMPS, which is just extraordinary!  Such diversity and such a wealth of knowledge that comes with those students.
