AFL North Cup

By Edward 6E, Daniel and Sam 6C

On the 6th of November, two footy teams from Year 6 participated in a friendly competition, organised by the North Melbourne Football Club. There were four primary schools that competed against each other, Holy Rosary Primary School, Flemington Primary School, St Mary’s Primary School and North Melbourne Primary School.

The boys first match was against Holy Rosary. At half time there was a 60m sprint race. Kelvin Tang and Luca Connaughton competed for our school. Kelvin won and Luca came second. Kelvin and Luca both got a signed North Melbourne footy jumper. We nearly made it to the final, but we didn’t score enough points and missed out on percentage. It was a great day and we had a lot of fun.

The 'Nines' football tournament was a really good experience. We all enjoyed it. Our first game was against St Mary’s, we lost by a lot, but we didn’t let that stop us. Our second game we played Holy Rosary, we pushed through and won. Then we played Flemington and won for a second time in a row.

In the first final, we played St Mary’s and lost again. However, we got a second chance in the semi final. We played Flemington, but sadly we lost by a five point difference. Even though we didn’t make the  grand final, we were still proud of our team effort and how far we got. We had a magnificent time playing a friendly football tournament with the other schools.

Year 5 & 6 District Cricket Competition

By Sylvie, 5D and Ella, 5E

On the 12th of November, a selected group students headed to the District Cricket Carnival. Whilst it was drizzling, we started out first game against Holy Rosary. We made a total of 138 runs and won our first match. With our heads high, we continued to smash through the rest of our games toward the final. We only just lost the final by a few runs, but still made it through to the next round: REGIONALS! 😊

On Tuesday the 12th of November a group of Year 5 and 6 girls and boys from NMPS went to compete in a cricket competition. On the day the Year 6 boys unfortunately lost all their games. Year 6 boys played against Holy Rosary and Moonee Ponds West. We then had a fun game against the Year fives boys and we had a draw. Ned hit a four and a six.  Ned got three wickets, two catches and one bowled.

While we weren’t playing we played in the nets. Afterwards we all got foam cricket balls from the Melbourne Renegades. In the end we’ll all had fun even though we didn’t make it to Regionals.

It was 9am, we all gathered in the Flex, ready to get on the bus. We got on the bus and arrived by 9:20am and got ready to play our first game. We got on the field ready to bat and we made about 120 runs. We ended up losing, but took some classic catches. We lost the next two matches, but beat the NMPS  Year 6 in an epic match. We all went home happy.
