Principal's Report

Principal's Report

School Council

School Council met last night and the following items were discussed:

  • Sub-committee reports tabled and discussed
  • Update on the COLA – this important project is underway and construction should be completed ready for Carols night
  • The role of fundraising in our school
  • Approval of a range of School Policies
  • Review update (see below)
  • The issue of double parking at the front of the school. School Council last night made a decision to pursue changing the zone at the front of the school to a drop-off zone only.

School Review

As part of the Review process, schools are asked to submit what they believe have been some of the highlights of the past three year. School Council discussed this at the last meeting and have written their summary below.

Over the past four years, HPS reputation as a school of choice has continued to grow due to a rigorous emphasis on learning and an involved school community. The school’s core values of integrity, care, cooperation and respect underpin our work, and our motto, ‘We care what we do’, embodies the strong synergy between parents, students and staff.

The school’s reputation is based on a broad range of evidence-based measures. NAPLAN and internal school assessment results continue to show excellent student outcomes. Our teachers strive to develop each child’s potential through the delivery of a deep learning curriculum as well as ensuring essential skills and knowledge are based on current pedagogical research.

Positive Student Attitude to School Survey results demonstrate how the school's emphasis on student engagement and wellbeing leads to an inclusive and safe learning environment. Opportunities for student voice and leadership, alongside an increasing focus on student agency, create positive social and academic experiences, as well as empowering students and building school pride.

Strong home-school partnerships are evidenced by parent involvement in community events, as classroom helpers and through membership on school council and its subcommittee. Over the past few years, school council has played a major role in improving the school's buildings and grounds. As a result of this work, the school provides an inviting environment and conducive learning spaces which reflect the pride we all have in our school.

Concert

Things to remember for concert

With Concert around the corner (less than one week in fact) here are the following MUST KNOWS for all families:

  • Leads MUST be at the theatre at 6pm
  • Year 3-6 arriving at 6.15pm
  • Foundation – Year 2 arriving at 6.30pm
  • All students must arrive in their concert outfit
  • Choir students will be provided with their concert t-shirt on the night
  • ALL students MUST be signed in and out of the theatre by a parent/guardian. Teachers will not handover students, until this has occurred. Please be mindful that this can take some time, with so many parent/guardians signing out at the same time
  • All costumes must come to school TOMORROW (Thursday 12th) for our FULL DRESS REHEARSAL
  • Reminder that all students with surnames A-K are performing on WEDNESDAY and L-Z are performing THURSDAY

Most of all, lets really encourage our students to make the most of the event and have a great time.

Don’t forget to buy your tickets – they are selling fast!

Thanks,

The Concert Team.

LET’S GET OUT those School Hats

Whilst I appreciate that we have not had many warm days our Sunsmart policy states that when the UV rating is above 3 during the middle of the day, we need to be mindful of protecting our skin by wearing a hat. I encourage all students to have their hat at school. If we have warm days, children without a hat  will need to play undercover.

Congratulations to Tilly M, an enthusiastic reader

One of our grade 1 students has combined her love of reading with a desire to help others. Tilly M recently completed the MS Readathon. She read 54 books and raised over $650 to help families with a parent with MS. Tilly also entered the state wide Threatened Species Children's art competition and was awarded first place in her age group. Along with her classmate Bliss, and 38 other finalists (selected from 610 entries), their art work will be exhibited at the royal Botanic Gardens until September 28. Tilly you have been very busy and we are very proud of what you have achieved!

Julie R Stars on the TV Show This Time Next Year

You may have been watching the Channel Nine television show, “This Time Next Year”, and recognised one of our students from grade 3. Julia is already a very accomplished pianist and pledged to learn one new piece of complex music per week. Julia worked extremely hard and exceeded this total and learnt over 60 pieces of music. Her performance on the television show demonstrated what an exceptional talent Julia has. An amazing accomplishment Julia! I look forward to hearing you at the Musical Soiree next year.

Early Dismissal

The end of term is fast approaching with our final assembly at 2:00pm on Friday 20th September, followed by an early dismissal at 2:30pm.
