LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library
Can you believe it’s Week 6 already? As the term is winding down, we’re starting to think about Christmas and having everyone return their books by the end of the year. While the annual stocktake isn’t too far away, for now, we are still enjoying reading great books each week.
Kindergarten are continuing to enjoy Aaron Blabey books and this week we are focusing on the use of rhyming words in the ‘The Dreadful Fluff’ and ‘Piranhas Don’t Eat Bananas’. We are practising spotting rhyming words in these books, coming up with our own rhyming words and then practising writing them. Despite many of the students having read these books, they always get a laugh and prove why Blabey is a much-loved children’s author.
Stage One and Two are reading two brand new books to arrive in the library. Stage One is enjoying ‘Little Puggle's Song’ by Vicki Conley and recalling a long list of Australian animals and flowers found in the story. You can find the book trailer for this Australian themed book here.
Stage Two is reading the new Mem Fox Book, ‘The Tiny Star’, which has been illustrated by the incredible Freya Blackwood. Penguin Books says that this book is “a truly unique and moving story about the journey of life, to be cherished and shared for generations to come” and I hope that you are able to read this book with your family as it’s written so tenderly. Finally, Stage Three are continuing to read ‘Teresa: A New Australian’ by Deb Abela and this week are developing an inquiry question that they would like to research and answer in the coming weeks. So far, we’ve had many questions such as: why didn’t the Germans invade Malta in World War II, how many tunnels are there underground in Malta and how many Maltese people migrated to Australia after the war? I will share with you what they have discovered in the coming weeks.
Scholastic Book Club
A big thank you to the families who ordered from the last Book Club of the year that went home last week.
Premier's Reading Challenge
Last week I received notification that the certificates for participants of the PRC will be available shortly. Once I receive these, I will distribute them to all students during a weekly assembly, however, students receiving significant awards for participating in the challenge for longer periods will receive theirs later in the term. Again, congratulations to all those students who participated, it’s a huge effort!
Library Loans
The library will close for borrowing at the end of Week 8, Friday 6/12/18, just in time for us to begin our annual stocktake of every book in the library (which is a huge job!). Notices for books will be going out next week so if you could please let me know if any books are lost, that would be appreciated. You can send me an email at library@holytrinity.nsw.edu.au .
New Books! New Books!
Arriving on a shelf near you shortly...
I hope your week goes well and you are able to find some time to enjoy a great book,
Mrs Fraser
