Update: State Cross Country

The State School Victora (SSV)  state final Cross Country for 2019 was held on Thursday 18th July at Bundoora Park.

Three students from Patterson River Secondary College who represented the College in this event were; from Year 8 Shkyiah Upson and Hayley Ponchard  as well as  Year 7 student, Shannon Delaney.  This is such a great achievement for these students to compete at this level and all are to be congratulated.

It was a great day for competing with blues skies all around and the three students each had terrific 3km runs.  Hayley placed 27th and Shkyiak 45th out of 94 competitors in the Under 14 girls . Shannon competed in the 12/13 boys, placing 11th out of 88 runners.

Well done to you all.

Junior Girls Football

On what can only be described as very trying conditions the Year 7 and 8 girls took on Mt Erin, Frankston and EMC. First goal went to Daisy Mooney. The rain did not stop for the entire day but the girls kept on going. The centre of the ground was a mud pit as the girls were sliding through by the end of the first game.

Best on ground for the day: Hollie Hargraves, Tayah Baker, Dakota Lehner and Amarli Mitchell.

Special thank you to goal umpire Mrs Mitchell

Great team work girls!

Intermediate Girls Netball

Friday 14th June was a curriculum day for the College.  But not for these wonderful girls that committed to play for me and the College on their day off.  Just this action made me so incredibly proud and grateful that we have such selfless athletes that love playing sport and representing the College. I couldn’t be more thankful of their commitment.

The Year 10 team had a tough day at the office.  All the girls gave 100% in all their games.  After a reshuffle of court positions, they got their groove on and became a lot more competitive throughout the tournament.  Although the pineapple/popcorn move wasn’t shown in its full potential, Eve and Madi made it effective in one defensive move.  Also, a huge congratulation to Alex who came after she attained her learners permit the morning of the competition.

The Year 9 Team proved to be very strong on the day.  For a team that has played together for 3 years, they finally came away with a win.  This team was very receptive to feedback during their game and were accepting of my coaching decisions.  When I asked the girls to move into BEAST mode and find an extra gear, they did.  Our last game was a heart starter only winning by 1 goal and this win allowed the team to move into the next round.

Again, thank you to all the team members.  Win lose or draw, I couldn’t be more proud.

Stay Sporty,

Year 7 Sport

During Term 2, Year 7 Sport Education students were given the opportunity to participate in an AFL, Netball, Badminton or Soccer elective. Coached by their Sport Education teachers and Year 10 EXCEL Sport Leaders, students spent 9 weeks learning the rules, positions, strategic play, teamwork and collaboration. Selected students were then able to participate in the Northern Peninsula Interschool Sport round robin which was held on Monday, 24th June.

Boys Soccer

On Monday, 24th of June the Year 7 Boys Soccer teams competed in the Interschool Sport Soccer competition at Ballam Park. Participating in thick fog and icy cold conditions both the A and B Soccer teams took a while to warm up as they faced tough competition in their games against EMC and Frankston High School. The boys displayed great determination and persistence throughout their games and continued to defend well and display great ball skills. Despite being defeated, spirits remained high. After receiving some great coaching tips from their Year 10 Sport EXCEL coaches, Ryley Stephenson and Sean Riddex, the A team were ready to face Carrum Downs and McClellend Secondary. When the sun finally shone through the clouds our goal kickers got to work displaying excellent goal scoring abilities. Some amazing goals were kicked by Mason Stirling, Luke Miccoli and Carlin Lennon. At the end of the day, our A team finished in equal third place and the B team came second to Frankston High School. Congratulations to all the boys for participating to the best of their ability and for displaying a great deal of respect, persistence and fair play, particularly when some of the other schools dominated during the games.

Thank you to Ms Winterton for assisting on the day and to our Year 10 EXCEL Sport students, Ryley Stephenson, Sean Riddex, Taz Schrek and Alex Walker who coached the soccer teams in Term 2.

Coach: Mrs Adams.

Girls Soccer

On a fresh Melbourne morning the Year 7 Girls Soccer side competed in the Northern Peninsula Interschool Sports at Seaford North Soccer Club. The girls started their quest for glory against Frankston High School showing great persistence throughout the game as they played with only 10 players. Chistina Rigopoulou showed great skill with the ball and kicked a great goal in the second half. Unfortuantely, Frankston played the better, winning 5-1. In the second game, the girls played EMC and were up against a strong team with lots of experience. The girls strived hard all game, but were beaten 7-0 in the end, with solid contributions from Jade Bara, Jaeda Calo- Thompson, Christina Rigopoulou and Caitlyn Mills. EMC and Frankston played out a 1-1 draw in the final, with EMC winning through to the next round on goal difference. Thanks to Sage Kirby from Yr 10 EXCEL Sport for her assistance in the lead up and on the day.

Girls Netball

On the 24th of June 20 year 7 girls went to Jubilee Park to participate in girl’s netball. What started off as a freezing cold morning turned into a nice day with both the A and B teams playing 5 games. Our A team had a rough start losing their first 3 games however kept their heads up to come home with the win in the last 2 games of the day. They ended up finishing in 4th position. Our B team did a great job winning 4 out of 5 games and coming in 2nd place overall. The girls had a really great day and showed great team spirit and sportsmanship.

Aerobics - State Finals

Congratulations to our Black Magic Aerobics team who  competed for the state finals in Geelong. The team put together their routine in 4 weeks and while not placing in the final, performed very well and should be extremely proud of their effort.
