Performing Arts News

End of Semester 1

After the amazing and jam packed start to the year we have had, the holidays were very welcomed by all the performing artists at our college. We are forever amazed by the dedication of both our performing arts staff and students. It never seems to slow down and the performances just keep getting better.  Here are some of our activities towards the end of term 2

Rising Stars

Since our last review we have seen some students excelling in all areas of performing arts. Ms Molloy’s Rising Stars certainly did just that by performing to a large group of their peers and teachers. This is an achievement in itself and these students should be so proud of not only how they performed on the day but also for having the courage to stand in front of their peers and put on such an applause rousing performance. It was very well received and Ms Molloy would like to thank not only the students but all of the people who helped on the day, including staff and performing arts captains.

Dance Night

It was so thrilling to bear witness to the magic that was Dance Night. Students nervously and eagerly awaited their chance to shine. Credit must go to Ms Davison who really learnt the ropes of her first dance night and helped the students put on a fantastic show.  All who attended really enjoyed the night.

Intermediate Bandfest

Bandfest visits Patterson River Secondary College! Bandfest is an annual event that brings together students from across the region to spend a day performing and working with special guest conductors. All of the performing students really lifted for this whole day event and gained valuable experiences by playing alongside students from other schools.

Drama Night

The last week of term saw our first ever Drama Night. Ms Davison and Ms Wade helped the drama students of the college put on a fantastic show for their audience. Highlights were the energetic Drama Club Murder Mystery Performance and the way the students all pulled together to make it happen. The students had a ball and are already excitedly talking about next semester.

Music Camp

Term 3 is traditionally a busy one in the Performing Arts and this one has been no exception! We have hit the ground running with the Music Department setting off on camp last week. The camp was held at the newly renovated Don Bosco Safety Beach site and it did not disappoint. Over the 3 days we were away the students engaged in intensive rehearsals with their instrumental teachers and were given the opportunity to play together in ensembles. All material rehearsed is in preparation for our annual Soiree and Spring Concert which is fast approaching.

As a department we are very lucky to have such a great group of dedicated students who embraced the challenge of such intensive rehearsals without a single complaint. It was also a great opportunity to put the instruments aside and bond together as a group. Students from Year 8 through to Year 12 chatted and laughed and enjoyed our beach walks and beach activities such as tug of war and sand castle competitions.  Our delicious meals prepared by Susie, the camp cook, were also a time to get together and really get to know one another.  It was so wonderful to see older students assist those younger than them to navigate their way through camp and the musical demands it presented.

A big thank you to all those who attended camp – your enthusiasm, persistence and thoughtfulness was hugely appreciated by all staff in attendance. We cannot wait to see the fruits of your labor in our upcoming concert and look forward to the energy you will bring to the stage.
