U15 Victorian School Sport

Earlier this year, Caron Sequeira of 0A8 was selected for the U15 Victorian School Sport Team for Volleyball. She was one of 10 girls selected, and was supposed to go to Gold Coast and play in the School Sport Australia championships later this year, however COVID had other plans! Unfortunately the event has been cancelled.

CONGRATULATIONS CARON and best of luck next year. We have faith in you!

Intermediate Girls AFL

The intermediate girls AFL team made history by winning its first game in over 10 years. However,  the day did not start well. Our first game was against a strong AFL team comprising of girls who played for state and we lost terribly with a score of xxx to 0. Although we were discouraged, we kept team morale and didn't give up in the face of adversity and eventually won our second game 12 -0. Many of us did not have prior AFL training, but we played amazingly well on the day.

The talent and perseverance of these girls was really inspiring and I think it's safe to say that we had an amazing time playing and bonding as a team. There were a few injuries on the day, but that did not stop us from giving it our all. The training sessions we had prior to the day really helped introduce us to the game and also discuss strategy. What set us apart though, in my opinion, was our ability to cheer each other on loudly, despite losing. I really think that attests to our ability to work well as a team, and I could not have chosen a better team to play for, even if we lost.

Intermediate Girls Softball 2021

After winning their district the Intermediate Girls Softball played three great games at the Southern Region. Nossal had a 14 – 0 win in their first game and then lost narrowly to Cheltenham (10 – 11) and Beumaris (7 – 8).

Janice Lim pitched all three games and was ably assisted by catchers Lina Afanasyeva and Keira Williams. Kiran Kleingeld held the fort at first base while other infielders were Regina Brown (second base), Angela Huang (third base) and taking the catch of the day Sabina Lim (short stop). Outfielders included Parami Balage (who also took a great catch), Sinadi Dissanayake, Naduni Kalubowila, Methya Pathirannehelage, Sineka Premaratne and Saki Sivanathan.

Senior Girls Softball 2021

Congratulations to the Senior Girls Softball team who finished 2nd in the Southern Regional District which qualifies them to attend the State Finals!

Nossal had a strong win against MacKinnon SC. Keisha Yam pitched well keeping MacKinnon to only 4 runs. Mary Yun (catcher) and Anita Chao (first base) played well defensively, while Mint Inchomnan made the catch of the day. Rasna Preman, Jasmine Lam, Nandita Chandran, Jane Duong and Akshaya Kajendra all scored runs for Nossal.  Other teams members were Jessica Nguyen and Manvitha Raju.

Senior Girls Netball

It was a chilly morning but the cold was no match for the eagerness and the excitement of the senior girls netball team. We arrived at Casey Stadium only for both the A and B netball teams to have byes during the first round.

The A's were up against Hallam Senior College and from watching their first match against Fountain Gate Secondary College, they would be the team to beat. The match came and I guess we realised why they are a sports academy, though we did put up quite the fight with Maureen Lwin's gravity defying intercepts strengthening the teams defence. Followed up by a close game against Berwick Secondary College where Keisha Yam did not miss a goal. After a short break the team returned to face Gleneagles Secondary, the tension was through the roof. We could taste the win but unfortunately it was not quite enough to bring it home. The last game for the day was against Fountain Gate Secondary College and the girls were just getting started. Vidhusha Kapukotowa in goal keeper was not letting them score, boxing out the shooters and intercepting everything in sight.

The B team started off their first game against Hallam Senior College and similarly to their A team they were a team to beat. Lucky B team had Nandita Chandran our superstar defender intercepting the ball left and right, though their team remained undefeated. Spirits remained high when going into the match against Glen Eagles, with Alex Nilos in centre meticulously controlling the speed of the play but it was not quite enough to take it home. The final game the B team was matched up against Fountain Gate Secondary College, they were aggressive but it did not matter as Cathy Miao was a trooper and did not let their unfriendly nudges get to her.

Congratulations to all players and thanks to everyone for making it a fun day out, despite the scoreline.
