School Council Update

Hi Monty families!

It is wonderful to be back at school in 2021 and to see so many happy smiling faces. School Council had its first meeting of the year on the 6th March at the school. We start each meeting with our Acknowledgement of Country and share some things we are grateful for. We are so grateful to be back at school and able to meet in person, and get back into the classroom as parent helpers. Thankful for our amazing Monty staff who have not only made the transition back to school a positive experience, but leapt into action for the snap lockdown and our quick return to remote learning. Teachers reported excellent participation during the 3 days of remote learning, even from our newest Foundation students who hadn’t been at school very long! Well done everyone!

Thanks to the parents and teachers who have renominated for school council, we are looking forward to being able to do much more this year within our new COVID-normal. I am thrilled to be supported on council by Kirsty as Vice President, Steph as Secretary and Bal as Treasurer. Dave heads up our Buildings and Grounds Subcommittee supported by Scott. Bec and Amy are looking after the Education Subcommittee and we have Ali supporting us all from the office. Thank you!

At the start of each year School Council endorses the school’s Annual Implementation Plan, and the focus areas for this year are learning, wellbeing, and community. Staff are actively working on analysing each students needs and engaging in learning at their individual level, while ensuring students are involved in their own learning growth. There will be a focussed whole school approach to ensuring our children are happy, healthy, and active – and supporting their development in these areas. And finally, building on our connections with families and community – one of our great strengths here at Monty is our sense of connection and community and this was especially evident during the challenges of 2020. Our family picnic was a great example of the events that strengthen our community and we are looking forward to more family focussed activities as the year goes on.

Huge thanks to Dave Koolsra, our Buildings and Grounds legend, for keeping things ticking over on that front. The first working bee of the year is coming up this Sunday 21st March from 8am and we would greatly appreciate any time you can spare to help out in the school grounds, which didn’t get much love last year thanks to restrictions. BYO gloves and garden tools, rumour has it we can crack out the BBQ for a quick snag at the end too.

School Council also endorses the fundraising activities for the year, and there are some great events planned. The Bunnings BBQ is our first fundraiser on Saturday 27th March, and the Easter Raffle is underway. We have our school production coming later in the year (exciting!) and something very colourful is returning in Term 4 too. Have you saved the date for Movie Night on 23rd April? Mmmmm popcorn……can’t wait to see you then!

Take care,

Nicole MacDonald – SC President
