Edmund Rice Family Camp

Family Camp in the Bush

Over the Easter long weekend, 11 Debney Meadows families joined a camp as part of the Edmund Rice Community & Refugee Services program. A group of 2 & 3 students and their families were selected to take part, and we look forward to running more camps in the future.

The students, their siblings and parents caught the bus from school out to the Amberley Edmund Rice Centre in Lower Plenty – and there was lots of singing as we drove along! The property is on the outskirts of Melbourne, on the Yarra River, surrounded by lovely bushland. Each family stayed for two nights in their own family room.

The camp was a special time for families to relax, play games, have fun and try new activities together. Every child had their own volunteer buddy for the entire camp, allowing parents the chance to relax, have a coffee and enjoy the beautiful environment.

Activities that the families participated in included bike riding, climbing on a low ropes course, a jumping castle, sports activities, and arts and crafts. There was also a talent show and a disco!

The camp was a wonderful time for families to have a holiday together and while only a few families were able to come this time, there will be more camps held in the future that other families can join.

A big thank you to the families that came along, the volunteers and to Edmund Rice Camps.
