The Big Day Up

BIG DAY UP  Blackhall Kalimna

Today we took advantage of the fact that the students from years 7 - 12 are all away on camps to take the primary children up to "the big school".

This was an opportunity for our children to navigate and feel comfortable at the Blackhall Kalimna campus, and we also extended the offer to our parents to come and explore the learning spaces.

The day began with a certain buzz of excitement. Off we go with Biggies and Buddies together.

The children worked their way through a day of rotation classes.

For the Science rotation, Vic and Olly ran two different sessions. In the Big Lab, the older children investigated the different properties of chemicals when heat is applied. For the younger children they ventured into the glorious front garden setting off rockets powered by carbon-dioxide created by mixing bi-carb soda and vinegar.

The rotation set up in our Tech Room was Arduino with Karl and Nanaki. The children used some simple coding language to create beeps and light blinks... next step, robots?

Drama in our Black Box Theatre was with Paul and Sam our senior theatre teacher. The children played drama games, and created silent statue scenes.

P.E was in "the cage" with Rosie and Michael - Special mention to Roarke for helping out.

Art in the "Barn" with Suzanne and Sophie.

It was wonderful to see how the children enjoyed the campus during Fruit and Lunch times. Our intention that the Arlington children feel comfortable at "the big school" would appear to have been achieved.
