WOODWORK

Woodwork has come to Kindergarten!

On the first day of term, this new area was met with much excitement.  The various shapes and sizes of the wood, the real tools, and the variety of pins, nails, and screws offers the children new ways to design, create, and construct.

Using real tools encourages children to be thoughtful, purposeful, and deliberate in their work.  Several children were curious about the ‘realness’ of the tools asking, “is this dangerous?”  It was pointed out to the children that the tools become either safe or dangerous depending on how we use them, and the children reflected on safe usage.  We believe that when we provide children with these opportunities for risky play it helps build their self-esteem as they recognise they are trusted and seen as capable by the adults in their world.

We are excited to see what discoveries and creations the children make during the term in this new learning space!
