Boarding

From the Head of Senior Boarding

The first weekend back from the holidays in boarding was a busy long weekend, with a variety of recreational activities. As the boarders had only just arrived back from the holidays, we remained open for the weekend and Friday night boarders enjoyed toasting marshmallows and vegetable kebabs on the fire pit. The fire pit is a great place for connections throughout the colder months on a Friday night and they followed this by some basketball games in the gym.

The weekend had many changes, due to the Covid restrictions, but we still had some boarders march in the ANZAC parade on Sunday. We arrived early into town and the seniors enjoyed a coffee and hot chocolate before joining others from the school to commemorate the ANZACs. Each House also enjoyed the ‘down-time’ provided by a long weekend by baking ANZAC biscuits, playing games, studying and competing on the Nintendo Switch.

Monday provided the opportunity for students to engage in different activities, with a group of students travelling to the Porongurups for a BBQ lunch before climbing Castle Rock. The view from the summit was sensational, with students even spotting a ship in Albany harbour.

Students who remained in boarding enjoyed a BBQ lunch and gelato at Handasydes Strawberry Farm. The weekend finished with dinner and chat with Sergeant Cameron Clifford speaking to various student groups about cybersafety and ways to be wise and safe in an online world. It was a busy and fun weekend for all in boarding.
