From the Deputy Principal

Melinda Tankard Reist

We were pleased to welcome Melinda Tankard Reist to GSG last week, who, with the generous support of our P&F, spoke to students in Middle and Senior School addressing sexualisation, objectification, the harms of pornography, sexual exploitation, trafficking and violence against women. Along with her co-presenter, Daniel Principe, Melinda encouraged students to take control of the online content they are consuming, to be critical and thoughtful about their behaviour choices and encouraged them to take action to develop respectful relationships.  Melinda also presented to parents and community members on Thursday evening, in a session that provoked discussion, questions and sharing about parents' own concerns and explored the action they, too, can take.

It was heartening to see so many parents and our students engage thoughtfully and be inspired by the messages they received.  We will continue this important conversation over coming weeks and months.

NAPLAN

Commencing Tuesday 11 May, students in Years Three, Five, Seven and Nine will participate in NAPLAN testing.  This year, our students will sit NAPLAN online for the first time.  Students have already participated in practice tests and we are looking forward to seeing students prepared with charged laptops and headphones for the testing in May. More information regarding the testing will follow.
