Physical Vibe News

What a busy couple of weeks it has been with events: Athletics, Cross Country and School Sport Victoria Trials.

Junior School has also enjoyed completing a variety of activities to build teamwork and develop their fundamental movement skills.

House Athletics - Foundation to Year 2

We finally got to hold our Junior Athletics Carnival on what turned out to be a perfect day. The students were all so excited and looked amazing in their house colours. The first event of the day was the sprints and wowee they were super fast. You could tell were all determined to earn house points. Once the sprints were over the students split into groups and rotated around six different activities: mini hurdles, foam javelins, egg and spoon relay, bean bag shot put, sack races and an obstacle course. The school leaders did a great job explaining each activity to the groups and also had the task of allocating house points to students who were displaying the school values.

In a day that was all about fun and having a go the students demonstrated sportsmanship beyond their years.

It was a tight contest with house points being awarded throughout the day with it coming down to the last activity rotation.

4th - Wiiny on 468 points

3rd - Munmut on 479 point

2nd - Baany on 535 points

1st - Biik on 559 points

Congratulations to Biik, a very well deserved win.

Events like this can not happen without the support of our volunteers. Thankyou for all your assistance on the day, I know your little people loved having you there cheering them on.

It was also great to see so many family members encouraging the students.

House Athletics - Year 3 - Year 6

The weather really turned it on for our House Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 28th April. A fun day was had by all with the students participating in a variety of track and field events. The hurdles proved to be a hit with so many wild and wacky techniques that kept the crowd gasping for breath! The high jump area looked like a stunt arena with so many superhero jumps!

A massive thankyou to all our wonderful volunteers who helped on the day.

Congratulations to everyone for having a go and earning points for their house. Well done to those students who placed in their events, these results will be compiled with those from Physical Vibe lessons to assist with selecting the school team to attend the District carnival in term 3.

Now for the winning House. The lead changed numerous times throughout the day but in the end there was only one winner.

District Cross Country

On Wednesday 5th May 43 students from our school attended the District Cross Country at Casey Fields. In what was a perfect day for running every student tried their best and displayed the school’s value. They wore the Cranbourne South sports singlet with pride.

We had some outstanding results with the following 12 students qualifying for the

Divisional carnival:

  • 9/10 girls - Lara A , Finlay V & Zavia W
  • 9/10 boys - Kade K
  • 11 girls - Mia T, Charlie P, Jemma S & Annalise R
  • 11 boys - Cohen M & Link D
  • 12/13 boys - Tye W & Jackson A

Given only 60 students qualify and we managed 12 of those places is a tremendous effort.

A big thanks to Mrs Hamilton, Mrs Papadopolous and Mrs Cattanach for taking the students and being awesome cheerleaders!

It was also great to see some many families showing their support also. A special thankyou to Lyn Dean and Rowena McCarthy for volunteering as course marshals, without your assistance the event would not have been so successful.

We wish our 12 students the best of luck at the Divisional Carnival on June 2nd.

School Sport Victoria Trials

Over the past few weeks we have had several students attend School Sport Victoria trials.

Well done to Tye Whitnell, Jackson Alder and Thomas Corrie who were put through their paces during cricket trials at Koo Wee Rup. Congratulations to Thomas who has been named a reserve for the next selection trials.

Link D. showcased his soccer skills at the trials and was successful in making it through to the next stage however a clash with District Cross Country prevented him from attending. Lucky for Link he progressed through to Divisional Cross Country.

Environmental Studies

Nature Play

Foundation - Year 2 have started their inquiry into leaves. We were busy collecting and then classifying them according to shape and colour. We also used the magnifying glasses to look at the veins and the margins of the leaves.

Kitchen Garden

4A had a go at making sushi last week and learnt how to julienne vegetables. It was lovely to sit down afterwards and enjoy eating them.

Environmental Science

This week the senior school started planning what the wildlife corridor will look like. Once we have all submitted a design they will be looked over by the staff at the Royal Botanic Gardens to decide on a final plan.

Nature Art

The Year 1's and 2's enjoyed making clay ornaments using nature objects to imprint.

Most of the Middle and Senior classes have completed their Botanical Gel Prints. Each art piece is so unique and detailed.

Well done to my amazing artists!!
