Careers News

Welcome Back!

2020 is shaping up to be a really exciting year in the Careers space, but I must firstly acknowledge the achievements of the Class of 2019.  It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with these young people in planning and undertaking their next steps beyond Northcote High School.

It’s such an honour to be a part of this process, and to see the very individual journey that each student travels.  I’m sure you have seen some information about our academic results, and perhaps even have an idea of where our students have ‘landed’ this year.  From where I sit, it’s not just the results and where students land, but also the strength they find through moving forward when things get difficult.  They find pathways to lead them towards long term goals, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves along the way.

Congratulations to all students who have moved on from NHS, and who are moving forward in the direction they want to go into the future.  Whether you are working in your dream job, completing an apprenticeship/traineeship, travelling and broadening your horizons, or studying to prepare for the next step… or a combination… CONGRATULATIONS!  As the great Dr. Suess says “You’re off to great places, today is your day!  Your mountain is waiting… so get on your way!”

I look forward to working with students this year, and hope that we can continue to prepare young people to step into their career journey with vision and confidence.

Year 10 work experience - time is ticking

In term four last year we launched the 2020 Work Experience Program to our (then) Year 9 cohort.  The response from many students has been excellent, with some students making arrangements last year, and quite a few students returning this year with a placement lined up.

Arranging Work Experience will be the focus in Connect classes this term, as well as completing the Occupational Health and Safety certifications.  The deadline to secure your placement, and complete the arrangement form – including getting it signed by your employer – is the end of term one.  The reason for this is to not only allow time for all the paperwork to be processed and sent to employers, but also to give students the best chance of finding a placement of their choice.

myNorthcoteHigh has a plethora of information to guide and assist students through the process of finding a placement, and completing the paperwork.  Simply go to Careers and click on the Work Experience tab.
