Learning and Teaching

Celebrating all that is Good with Joy and Gratitude

There is much to look forward to this term. A variety of upcoming co-curricular activities serve to provide opportunities to utilise strengths and talents in a multitude of ways. Students are preparing to participate in the Maths Olympiad, the Model UN Conference and many SCSA and SEGAP sporting competitions.

There are also many opportunities for parents to get involved in school events. There are a number of Elevate Education study skills information sessions on offer, as well as opportunities to attend Music events and get involved in the Parent Book Club.

We belong to a welcoming and vibrant community. What a blessing!

Academic Tutoring Program

This week we have launched our Academic Tutoring Program. Funding has been made available for schools to assist with providing support for students who may have fallen behind in their learning during the lockdown periods of 2020. Kilbreda has been fortunate enough to secure some of this funding and is excited to announce the appointment of some new tutors who are joining our team.

Please see the staff announcements in the Assistant Principal: Staff section of the newsletter.

Tutors will be assisting in Year 7 to 9 classrooms and providing support during study periods and after school for students in Years 10 to 12. Students who have been identified as requiring this additional support will be contacted by the school over the next week.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN is scheduled for all students in Year 7 and Year 9 for the following dates:

Tuesday 11 May

Language Conventions

Writing

Wednesday 12 May

Reading

Thursday 13 May

Numeracy

All Year 7 and Year 9 students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests. During test week, catch-up tests will be available for individual students who are absent on test days. These students may undertake catch-up tests on the days in the test week after the scheduled test, up to and including Friday 14 May.

Later in the year, parents will receive their child’s personal NAPLAN report. The report will describe your child’s particular skills in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards. These describe the minimum acceptable standards for students across Australia.

For more information about the tests, please visit the VCAA website at www.vcaa.vic.edu.auor the NAP website at www.nap.edu.au
