Swimming and Diving

After many weeks of training under the tutelage of Jane Ward, the SCSA Swimming and Diving team headed off to MSAC to compete in the Division 1 competition. The senior girls had the music pumping on the bus as they looked to make up for the missed sporting events of 2020.

The night started well with a number of medley relay teams among the places in what was an excellent standard of competition. Despite parents being unable to attend the Kilbreda team was very vocal and supportive and team spirit was high! Our divers were also performing well and as the night progressed we found ourselves near the top of the leaderboard in the overall aggregate. Everyone was excited for the final swimming events, the 50m freestyle relays and they did not disappoint with all teams swimming very well.

After such a fantastic night we were all waiting for the final presentations with Kilbreda finishing 1st in the senior swimming aggregate, 3rd in the intermediate, 2nd in the junior and 4th in the diving to finish in 2nd place overall. This was a fantastic result and no doubt our highest finish for a long time.

Congratulations to all of the following students for their efforts on the night and in the lead up to the competition: Lucia Robb, Elizabeth Harris, Olivia Roberts, Eliza Gardiner, Riley Dow, Tahlia Roberts, Elise Napier, Charlotte Forbes, Grace Forbes, Jacinta Crowely, Kate Golby, Lily Proudfoot, Gigi Williams, Indi Hanlon, Ava Altamura, Sian Francis, Grace Cronin, Jasmine Allen, Madison Barber, Mia Hayden, Emily Smith, Jessie Laughlin, Michelle Pham, Lucy Bracchi, Alana Black, Evie Barnes, Charli Gardner, Elke Madlener, Sasha Horan, Ruby Douche, Michaela Meyer, Leah Allen, Caitlin Isles, Chloe Cronin, Raani Altamura, Lauren Russo, Sophie Goddard, Chloe Joughin, Emily Roberts, Alexia Ritzert, Ella Bater, Megan Jenkins, Jade Wise, Maddy Torpey, Ami Davis, Ella Martin, Ashleigh Clark, Jacqueline Isles, Meg Golby and Laura Mitchell.

Sport Achievement

Congratulations to Emily Smith (Year 9) on her first performance in the Australian Track and Field Championships in Sydney over the holidays. Emily came 6th in the U/16 Women’s 3km race walk with a time of 16.21.14.

Emily then competed in the U/18 women’s 5km race walk and finished 2nd to bring home a silver medal! Her time of 28.01.94 was just 6 seconds off her personal best for that distance, and she was also competing with other girls who were three years older than her. Congratulations on being a national medallist!

Emily’s next competition is in Canberra in June. We wish Emily well in her training as she prepares for this next competition.

Well done Emily!

Duke of Edinburgh Practice Journey

This year the Duke of Edinburgh practice journey was held in conjunction with the Year 9 BRIDGES Camp with students attending two days of Duke and two days of BRIDGES.

The main hike of around 15km was from the Gables Lookout to Princetown CampGround and while the hills, stairs and sand made it challenging at times, the abundant wildlife and breathtaking ocean views certainly took our mind off the trek. Some meals were amazing, some not so, some packs incredibly light, some not so, but a learning experience for all students that will help them with their qualifying journey to Wilsons Prom in Term 4.

See images of the camp in this edition on the 'Year 9' page.
